Has anyone seen this?

I watched it on one of the HD channels (Can't remember which one) a couple of months ago & i'm not a fan of the animation. I understand it's old but it was quite creepy I thought LOL!

Watched it over and over on VHS as a kid. In no way a great film, but I'm glad it's out there for sentimental reasons! Some scenes might even have served as inspiration for Peter Jackson, or so I thought. Other scenes are crap really, and the end comes very suddenly after book two (or rather when the money ran out in the production budget)

Most of it was rotoscoped rather than cel animated but some was posterised live action footage (mostly the action scenes) and I think those scenes look pretty decent given the age of the film. Pity there wasn't the money to make the second half. Heritage Miniatures did a large range of 25mm and larger white metal figures for wargaming and display. These are very faithful to the film designs and feature some items planned for the film but not used like the Barrow Wights. Can be found on ebay but beware recastings.

Loving the cover art!
A few people nickname me Samwise and in that regard being Samwise and all I am offended by Ralph Bakshi's depiction of ol' Gamgee.
Despite that niggle it looks quite a nice little adaption, despite the slight and strange creepiness it has.

listening to lotr complete symphony...like a boss

The picture in the first post is just the theatrical poster which I put there for now until Blu-ray artwork is available.

Shall we start taking bets now KS, on whether the genius folk at WBHEUK will manage to squeeze this one out before Watership Down?

I'd say you're correct Kuros, I doubt we'll see Watership Down on Blu-ray this year now

Sure, but are you confident the numpties at WB's London office will manage to get The Lord of the Rings released this year though?

Time will tell I guess, you never know they might realise they've already released so many catalogue titles this year already and so may decide to delay it until next year when their schedule's abit clearer
