Blu-ray Samurai

I thought I would make a thread for this title since it doesn't appear that there was one already.
![]() I saw this film a few months ago and am really looking forward to the Blu-ray release. I am a big Studio Ghibli fan and the plot reminded me of some of Hayao Miyazaki's films, not to mention the character designs. I'm also curious to hear the English dub and I hope it's well produced. Anyone else picking this up on release day? I'm hoping Amazon drops the price, even just a little bit, as I think $29.99 is a little high. Last edited by Scottie; 12-19-2017 at 02:03 AM. |

I received my copy from ImportCDs.com late last week and watched the film and bonus features over the weekend. The picture quality is excellent and I didn't notice any issues worth reporting. The English dub was pretty well done, and I'm glad that Asuna's English voice actress didn't try to make her sound like a typical "little girl."
The bonus features were pretty good and included a 55-minute Japanese cast interview and a 45 minute "making of" special. There was also a short preview of the Grave of the Fireflies Blu-ray, which looks to another great release. |

I bought this recently from the Sentai Filmworks site after finding out this was made by the same person who made Your Name
I'd like to say I'm watching it soon but between buying 30 movies from Black Friday and still being behind on prior hauls, it may be a while before I get to watch this |

I liked this one, it's really good. But if I had to give a recommendation I'd recommend Garden of Words over this one. Not hating on this one, I'm glad with my purchase and I'll likely rewatch again but Garden of Words is better in my opinion

I also bought 5 Centimeters Per Second around the same time, and I did watch that. I thought it was good, just not great. Which is pretty much how I feel about The Garden of Words. By the way, I thought The Place Promised in our Early Days was pretty weak, to be honest. EDIT: I finally got around to watching it and I thought it was okay at best. (beautifully animated though) It felt like a shallow cross between Castle in the Sky and Tales From Earthsea, especially the latter. Last edited by gwfb5; 03-03-2018 at 03:31 AM. |
