Default Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD vs BDP94

I just got an email from Pioneer about the new Elite BDP-95FD. They just came out with the Elite BDP-94 a couple of months ago. I purchased one, and I am happy with it, but I would like to know what the difference is between the two units? Anyone know?

The BDP-94 has HDMI 1.2a and the BDP-95 has 1.3a. I didn't see any reference to the 95 having 1.1, (PIP).

They have said it is not 1.1. The 1.1 or 2.0 player will be announced at the Jan show. Pioneer is justdoing small upgrades and shipping new players. Which is starting to tick off quite a few people.

A new player every 3 or 4 months is not a good way to build brand loyalty. Not everyone has a dealer that will allow you to trade up.

DTS HD HR and MA bitstream. Is the big one.

We also bought the Pioneer 94 and are very happy with it. I think the main difference between 94 and 95 is that the 94 is 1.2 and the 95 is 1.3. But I can't say that with certainty

Default Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD vs BDP94

I had the 94 and traded it back for the 95. The 95 has the capability to bitstream Dolby True HD and DTS HDMA (the new superior surround sounds) to an appropriate receiver or preamp that processes these two formats. The 94 is 1.2 HDMI and the 95 1.3. The 94 can send the core of True HD but not the whole signal and HDMA not at all. Those are the major differences although it appears to me the 95 has slightly better upscaling to my eye. I have the Elite VSX-94TXH receiver and the two together are phenomenal sounding, a match made in heaven.

Where did you get your 95 at? They seem to be sold out everywhere, including the Pioneer store in CA.

I know the Pioneer store is expecting shipment number 2 this week. And of they are taking orders for them now. The CA Best Buys have them in the warehouse as well as of Friday. And they will take just a few days to get in. I also know that Magnolia Audio and Video here in CA got a shipment last week for there 6 or 8 stores.

It is not that they are sold out they have not really started to show up yet.

Thanks for the good information. Can anyone say whether:

Can the 94 decode THD and output as LPCM? I didn't think THD had a core in the same way that the DTS HD tracks do.

How does the HD1 fit in with this?

Can the 95 decode DTS HD HR or DTS HD MA and output as LPCM?

Cheers, Nick

The 94 and HD1 can both decode THD and out as LPCM. The 95 can pass any of the codecs via bitstream to a compatible receiver. No player can decode MA yet.

Default So What's The Deal?

So is the 95 the player to get or should we for one that finally does it all?

I also have another question:

The 94 just had a firmware update 2.3, it did help with some play back issues I had but, they will not be able to fix any of these audio issue with another firmware update? By that I mean, these audio issues are hardware problems?

The dts-ma is a hardware limitation.

Wait until the 96 model in Jan/Feb that is a 1.1 profile player before you trade up.

Default So Should I Up Grade Now Again, or Wait?

So the main difference is audio? So should I up grade my 94 for a 95, or wait till Jan when they have another new player coming out? (Is that true? Another new player in Jan. ?)

They will announce another player at the Jan show but when it will be here is another question. It is normally 2-3 months before anything hits and that is with the stuff they have ready to go.

Default Can't upgrade frimware on 95FD

I've attempted times to upgrade my new Elite BDP-95FD player FW to 3.2 but always get a "can't read disc-data disc" message. Called Pioneer Canada who were to send me the update 4 weeks ago..nothing still.

Any suggestions. I've been trying several types of CD-R medium.

TIA

If you're gonna pay the same price then might as well get this:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News...x?NewsId=22262

This is the new model (BDP-05FD) that was just announced at CES. It is PiP and BD-Live compliant.
