Laptop on TV - Blu-ray Forum

I have my laptop on my 15" Macbook Pro on my TV there are black black bars on the left and right of my screen. I don't know much about computers but I think there screens are 16:10 where as TV's are 16:9. is there any way I can get my Macbook pro to output a 16:9 image so it fills up entire TV screen?

Can you adjust the laptop to output 1920x1080 resolution. My windows based laptop automatically switches when I plug it into my display.
