which one between those two have better sound for medium/big room. mostly would be used for movies. currently my set up is energy cf70 speakers with matching center. down the line I will be up grading to bowers and wilkins cm9 with center and surrounds to match.
Right now im using pioneer 1021. My problem with it is that i feel its not running enough power to surrounds. Sound is weak and flat. From what i have been reading about onkyo 818 is that it has a problem running blu ray movies in 24p. Has the problem fixed or does it still exist as I mostly watch blu ray movies and that could be a deal breaker for me. Thanks! |

I never read that the 818 had problems running 24p . There is other issues but not the that one , do you have a link ?
The 1021 for sure will deliver enough power to your surrounds ( btw what surrounds are you using ) and there's a easy way to compensate that by going to your MCACC manual settings and raise the trim levels , but i would run again the MCACC first ( you have several memory preset's that can be used ) and then raise the trim level on surrounds . |

How do I do that on mcacc, do I have to run mcacc set up all over again or is there option I have to go into?
Also when I upgrade to bowers and Wilkins cm9 will pioneer 1021 be enough to run them? Final question is there big enough sound difference for movies between those two receivers? Is it worth the upgrade ?or does the sound detail comes down to speakers themselves? |

By the price tag on the 818 it's already a winner compared to the Pioneer SC-65 . They are both great performers on power rating so both models will drive very easily your present speakers or the future cm9 both have pre-outs and you can always take out some load from the receiver if you want to had a amp . There's also some other advantages on the 818 being Audyssey XT32 the biggest one ( this one made a difference in calibrating 2 subs and i got a better result that i had with MCACC ) . Here's a pic from my MCACC and on the right side you see TRIM , you just need to go to your MCACC settings and do it manually you can raise the trim on you surrounds . When i said to run the MCACC it's because you will have several memory options and you can go back and forward and listen the differences ( if i'm not mistaken it has 8 memory slots ) . ![]() |
