I've not only seen it on TCM, but at The Film Forum in NYC in 2011. Fantastic film. Well worth adding to your Criterion Collection.

Anyone know why Amazon's price for this is over 30 bucks, when Badlands is just over 25? I know it's only like a 5 dollar difference, but usually they only charge this much for two-disc sets. I was looking forward to getting this one, but with so much other stuff coming out on the same day, somethings gotta give with that price...

Default Can we argue about pricing?

Just don't see the need for questioning the prices of the Criterion releases. We must realize these films are licensed from bigger studios (which I am sure they make Criterion pay a price). Plus with these awesome 4K and 2K restorations, I would pay a pretty penny to get these blu rays. Now if only Criterion was able to re-release The Third Man on blu ray!

Of the three P&P BDs Criterion has released, Blimp is my least favorite. It's not a bad film at all, but I think The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus are just better and more entrancing. I guess ballerinas and crazy nuns just speak to me more.

I know what you mean.

...I've always had a thing for crazy nuns.

Blimp was one of my first Criterion Blu-rays and I think it's a terrific film. May not be for everyone but I certainly have enjoyed it a few times.

The color is beautiful in this Technicolor film, and it has a very touching story. This is definitely one of my most favorite P&P films.

Watched this last night for the first time.

It's good, but to be honest I was a bit disappointed.

I've heard it referred to as the greatest British film ever made.

I would have to strongly disagree with that.

I don't even think it's the greatest Powell and Pressburger film ever made.

...certainly not as good as Lawrence of Arabia imo.

Of the three PP films I own, Colonel Blimp is my least favorite and definitely far behind The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus. It's definitely the least watched of the three.

Blimp is my favorite of the three. I lent it to my mother, and she loved it, too.

In addition to the fabulous characters, cinematography, etc. I love the theme: British culture was forced to confront a harsher world and realized it had to change. In particular, the characters portrayed by Kerr show the changing role of women in British society. It's no accident that she portrayed all those characters spanning many decades.

I was not wowed by the story, but the restoration is stunning. Not sure if I'll ever watch it again but I might. For anyone considering it, try to catch it on TCM or only buy it if there is absolutely nothing else on your Criterion wish list.

One of Criterion’s best. An extraordinary film and amazing restoration.
