Default SONY Blu-ray are 4:1 to HD DVD in hi-def in Hong Kong

IN HONG KONG, we can see many big shop sell blu-ray disc, but seldom see the hd dvd. ALTHOUGH the hd dvd player had a price cut, it also no effect in here . Can any other asian country people tell me about the format war in your country? Sony is very aggressive in the hk market, and i preorder the spiderman thiroy at $470($61USD), is it good price?

yes, that's about average price.

Bluray completely destroys HDDVD in any other soil outside of the States... here we dominate, not as much as we should.

Why is HD DVD doing so well in North America HD DVD should have died a quick death as far as I am concerned. It looks like it will be around for the near future any way, I know it's a shame, but it's probably true, unfortunatly.

Stupidity runs rampant in the US.

IMO, it's because there are a lot of people that are easily fooled by Jedi mind tricks. It works best on lesser minds. At least, that's what George Lucas's story teaches us (oh great teacher).

Seriously, I think that a lot of Americans (yes, I am an American and I see it) don't care to much for facts. A lot of us consider opinions to be facts and pass them as such. Not to mention that a lot of us are extremely selfish. Therefore, we don't think our selfishness have wider consequences.

Example: The people that have Blu-ray already and deciding to buy HD DVD players and movies so they can watch titles they want to see in 1080p. They either aren't aware or don't care about that extends the Format War.

OR

Those that decided to get HD DVD or Blu-ray because they couldn't afford the price of a Blu-ray player. Instead of waiting until the prices came down enough for them to comfortably afford the better technology, they just jumped on the cheaper product bandwagon (and circumvent the usual process of waiting 'til prices come down). The funny thing is that these people usually end up spending MORE money on importing exclusive US BD titles from other countries (completely killing the lower cost reason they jumped in for in the first place).

To me, it's almost like watching "In the Mouth of Madness" all over again. Scary!

jdepp welcome to blu-ray.com forums. Glad to hear of the dominance in Hong Kong. I believe that most of the world has spoken and that it is going to play a big part in hd dvd's demise.
BTW, you were great in the pirates movies.

SONY are really stepping up the blu-ray adds here in New Zealand. On friday I went and saw Fracture at the movies (great movie by the way) and during the previews they had a real cool blu-ray add cars falling people fighting. As yet I have not seen one place advertising and or selling HD-DVD or their players. I think it is safe to say HD-DVD never even got a look in here. Now why can't the rest of the world be so smart?

Hi, I live in Singapore and from what I can see, Blu-ray has a bigger preference. The Blu-ray sections is usually twice the size and I do see demo's of Blu-ray players on at some of the electronic stores but never do I see an HD-DVD demo setup.

But I don't think price is as big of a factor here. The Samsung BD-P1000 sells for about US$900. Even with the rates doing so well in favor of the Asian countries, I have not seen any price cuts. The HD players are very expensive as well.

Disks on both formats go US$37

So I don't see price playing a big factor here as the PS3 sells for less then any satnd alone HD-DVD player that I have seen.
