Default Your favorite albums of 2013 so far

Last year's thread

Another year has started, and chances are good that some good new music will come out. Feel free to list and rank your favorites as they come out.

So far, the only album I've bought is Otep's Hydra. Despite the few bad reviews, I was digging it. Will list more as I buy them.

Wolf's Law-The Joy Formidable

--I'd be surprised if I bought any album this entire year that I thought was better or liked more.

Only listened once, but Tegan and Sara's "Heartthrob" is promising.

Also looking forward to Coheed and Cambria and Silverstein over the next few weeks.

I don't know if it counts since it's really just 5 EPs (3 released in 2012, 2 in 2013), but the My Chemical Romance "Conventional Weapons" set has been awesome through the first 4.

Only Ra Ra Riot's Beta Love and Tegan & Sara's Heartthrob has grabbed my attention... kind of a slow start to 2013.

Honestly, the current crop of new singles makes it seem like 2013 might be a slightly disappointing year in terms of music. New Strokes, Paramore, JT and Foals didn't live up to my hopes!

Oh well at least we got new Lonely Island

Between that and Every Weekend - Hadouken! for me.

I really don't get the hate it seems to be getting from some (The Still Into You music video in particular). Yeah it is hard to top RIOT! but that doesn't make this one bad and personally like it a lot more than Brand New Eyes. Like that some songs retain the old sound and other songs evolve into something different to keep things from getting stale and of those there are some fun tracks. And honestly the Still Into You music video is one of the few times I have thought their music video actually matched Hayley and Jeremy personality wise. This lineup seems to have much better chemistry and it is allowing them to enjoy things more. Although it would have been nice if they had settled on a drummer too instead of the constantly changing drummers. Especially that Lurch looking one they were touring with for a bit

The Katy Perry comparisons in particular are making my brain melt from trying to think of what the hell people could be seeing or hearing that slightly resembles Katy Perry. No Doubt or something I could see but Katy Perry? Even saying Hayley is dressing like her. Hayley doesn't exactly have a lot in the area that Katy dresses to showcase and would look pretty ridiculous trying to dress like her. And she has worn Dweeb stuff before so how that is dressing different is beyond me.

Maybe they mean Katy Perry circa Simple when she was still very conservative and being a good little preachers daughter

-----------------------------

Now VersaEmerge's sound change I am a bit more mixed on since it is so extremely different. But even that I seem to be enjoying more than not liking. And in the end probably a good move for them to avoid the constant Paramore comparison (Especially when they are with FBR too). Remind me a bit of Kerli now.

Well, looks like this is it for the year. I've picked up quite a few albums, but haven't listened to as many of them as I'd want to. I think some of the best ones came out toward the end of the year, but it's been alright overall; lots of great new rock and metal I like. Haven't found much pop that really blew me away. I think I've been most impressed by the film and game soundtracks that have come out though.

My final rankings, for now, sorta...it could all change by this time next year, who knows?
