Yep. There are loads of movies only available on VHS and Laserdisc, at least in the genres of Horror/Exploitation/Low budget etc. Plenty of entertaining Italian Mad Max/Escape From New York clones that never made it to digital formats, as an example. I love these kinds of movies, so I'm always on the lookout for the old VHS tapes of them. Another World Entertainment have released some of them (Hands of Steel, The New Barbarians, 2019: After The Fall of New York, Blastfighter, etc) on DVD in Region 2, and I know there have been US releases of some of these movies as well, but there are a lot of these movies still only on VHS and crappy bootlegs. One they really should release is The Raiders of Atlantis (a.k.a. Atlantis Interceptors) on DVD. One of the best of the genre.

Well, even if the original negatives for these films don't even exist now, someone is bound to have a print somewhere. The hard part seems to be figuring out who owns the rights to the films, so they can be licensed. It's so sad, so many movies out there in limbo.

Even though many VHS movies have not been released on DVD, the studios still have the masters stored in their vaults. Some of those unreleased movies, have been broadcast previously on satellite, and cable premium HD channels. I've recorded a few of them on my DVR.

For the longest time, I have been wanting to see the uncut version of A Nightmare on Elm Street 5, Given that this is only available on old Laserdiscs (which I believe is quite rare nowadays) and pre-1999 VHS (in PAL territories), I took a chance on an Amazon UK listing. Today it arrived, and had a different cover than what was shown on Amazon.co.uk, and I thought this should be interesting.... Just checked, and it's uncut! How about that - sometimes it pays to take a gamble.
![]() Version listed on Amazon I thought I was getting Below is the one I got, which is the 1991 Fox release. [Show spoiler]

Yes, there are tons of them, especially in the horror genre. I still have a pretty healthy sized VHS collection.
Looking at my VHS shelf, here are various titles that never made it to disc (or at least in the US to my knowledge): Summer Camp Nightmare Blood Tracks Eyes Of Fire Goodnight, God Bless Playroom WitchTrap The Mutilator Night Angel Edge Of The Axe Slipping Into Darkness Zombie High Elves HollowGate Honeymoon Horror Mom The Borrower House Of Death Deadly Dreams Twisted Nightmare The Ladies Club Hunter's Blood Blood Games Slaughterhouse Rock Shallow Grave Psycho Cop Hide & Go Shriek The Paperboy Blood Salvage Necromonicon: Book Of The Dead Unmasked: Part 25 Berserker Strays The Forgotten One Witchboard 2 MasterBlaster Demon Wind Trilogy Of Terror 2 Night Of The Scarecrow To All A Goodnight Silent Madness Contagion Spookies Curfew The Rejuvenator The Outing Dead Girls Sweet Murder Trick Or Treats Sorority Girls And The Creature From Hell The Night Brings Charlie Remote Control Night Of The Demons 3 Open House Junior Buried Alive Hider In The House House IV The Supernaturals 976-EVIL 2 Beyond Darkness Iced Night Life Phantom Of The Ritz Ghost Dance Rocktober Blood Halloween Night Last Dance Bikini Island Severed Ties Skull: Night Of Terror The Invisible Maniac Storm The Prey The Deadly Intruder Night Warning Fatal Games Whodunit Return Of The Family Man Possession: Until Death Do Us Part The Slayer Blood Frenzy Home For The Holidays Midnight Ride Death Weekend Plus, there are tons of TV movies that never even made it to VHS, let alone DVD. |

There are countless classic movies that have never been released on disc, though things like the Warner Archive are helping that along. I know I have several silent movies on laserdisc and video, including The Crowd, THe Big Parade, The Wind, Greed, and Abel Gance's Napoleon, which I'm awfully proud of.

with all the companies that went out of business in the 80's, i have to imagine there are tons of movies that never made it to dvd. even if another company owns them now, they may not release them as they don't think they will make money or they might not even realise they own them. but it would be low to medium budgeted movies - anything with a half decent budget or better is probably released already.
of course, there is always Song of the South too. |

Most of the Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs) I remember growing up watching haven't been released on DVD or any kind of home release. Some like:
Brink! Up, Up and Away Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century Johnny Tsunami Phantom of the Megaplex Alley Cats Strike I would really like to see all of these at least released on DVD since I believe Blu-Ray would be way too much to ask. But Disney seems to have forgotten thier old DCOMs so I wouldn't count on any kind of release. |
