The marketing for this movie sounds so incredibly desperate.

Posting a street date for the home release before the film even hits theaters will only want to make me skip the theatrical showing and just wait for the Blu. I think it over several times before deciding to venture out to the movies these days. It's just too much of a hassle dealing with morons who think they're home and can do whatever they want in public.

Because without a release date for the home release it was an uncertainty whether or not the movie would even come to BD/DVD in 3-4 months like every.other.movie.

Seems to me like it's a gag fawning over the copyright for the Sam Raimi original; "THE EVIL DEAD, The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror".

I'll see the theatrical release as a curiosity, though I fully expect the Blu-ray to be longer. Par for the course these days, really.

Not just the poster tagline, but all of the marketing for the movie just comes across as them really overhyping up the scare factor with gimmicks, which to me, just comes across as desperation.

They have a really stupid "Share your Scare" feature on youtube allowing people to record their reaction to the redband trailer. Their website says "Enter the Most Terrifying site Ever". It's just one after another

i usally agree with everyone when they have bad opinons of horror remakes(hell remakes in general) but this one im gonna give the benifit of doubt. i like that this has all the orginal producers on board. i dont think they would just let anyone dump on their baby. if im not mistaken this is a independant film so there is no studio interferance which is key if a movie this this is going to suceed. plus this director was picked my raimi himself. i think this will actually be good although i wouldnt be completely shocked if it stunk. i think it easily has the potential to be one of the better horror remakes (so far the hills have eyes remake takes the horror remake cake for me). the 81% approval on rotten tomatos is a good sign and im actually excited for it.

as for the news of the blu ray release date before the film even hits theaters, well it really doesnt surprise me that the money men think a big part of the cash they will see from this will come from dvd and blu.

Like someone else already pointed out, the poster tagline is a direct and obvious reference to the tagline of the original EVIL DEAD, which was famously "The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror."

EVIL DEAD II had "The Sequel To The Ultimate Experience In Grueling Terror."

The marketing materials are obviously just an extension of that concept. It's not desperate. It's a joke.

What more do you expect from Sony? They don't have the greatest marketing when it comes to their films. Heck, they completely ignored Take Shelter for the awards season, which should have received a push but didn't.

I put their film marketing campaigns on the same level as Universal; you are barely aware some of their films exist.

Did you see the video above? You think the share your scare is related to the original movies tagline? ..You're deluding yourself if you think Sony's entire marketing for this is being done as an inside joke. They're basically thinking of every gimmick possible to try and get people into theatres. It's fine and good for them if it works, but I rather let the movie speak for itself, than gimmicks.

I usually avoid remakes, especially horror ones, at all costs but this one has been getting some really good reviews. I'll check it out in theaters.

Not sure what to expect from this one. I may consider a blind buy.

The movie looks like a fun re-telling. With Raimi and Campbell on board, I'm expecting something above avg. This is Fede Alvarez's feature film directorial debut though so it'll be interesting to see how that affects things.

Here's the short film that put him on the map. Made for just $300, which is pretty impressive

Dude, that's neat stuff, kudos to Fede Alvarez... I'm sure this will be a pretty cool remake.
