Not exactly home theater, but trying to find something suitable for the office. Current PJ sits on table but it is always in the way, plus the noise from it interferes with the speaker phone. Would move it to a ceiling mount or a shelf, but it would not work well. So I am looking at new PJ choices.
Want more resolution than current 1024 x 768, so thinking of 1920x1080 or similar. Might show odd movie, but mainly want more resolution for stuff like schematics, Excel spreadsheets, etc. Want zoom and lens shift for more flexible mounting choices. Want VGA15 and HDMI inputs. Brightness and noise, let's see what my other choices bring. Obviously brighter and quieter are preferred. The room is 22 ft long by 14 ft wide. Have good light control but do not want to sit in the dark just to see the screen. We will have to buy a new screen too, or paint the wall. But for now I just want to identify the proper PJ so I can work out a budget for the overall upgrade. Trying to keep the PJ under $2k USD. Was thinking about a Panny AR-100U for $1300 you get 2800 Lumens, 50000:1 contrast, full HD. Decent choice? Should I be looking at something else? Trying to keep the costs down, but definitely want resolution higher than 1024 x 768. |

Not many conference room projectors offer lens shift, as it's not as requested feature as it is in home theater (although you'd think it is). If you are going for a home entertainment projector, as it sounds like you are, I couldn't really think of a better projector suited for that, other than the Acer H9500, or the BenQ W1070 (although it's lens shift is limited), which are closer the the AR100U's price.
If you still want a projector made specifically for an office, projector central does have a few recommendations, some of which may offer lens shift. http://www.projectorcentral.com/proj...ews.cfm?sort=4 Last edited by Trogdor2010; 03-20-2013 at 08:14 AM. |

Looking for higher lumens, lens shift, and high resolution = limited choices. We have a 1024 x 768 PJ now and we find the resolution too small, always having to pan around, play with zoom, etc. so higher resolution with larger screen is a must. Larger screen mean more lumens unless we darken the room to compensate, which can make it difficult to work with paper handouts, take notes, etc. Mounting options are limited, so lens shift is really needed unless there is some other way that I have not thought of to position it all. So I guess I must live with what options I do have that meet those criteria and do not cost an arm and a leg. If not the AR100U then I guess I could go for the 8350 and use a higher gain screen if necessary. I need to buy a new screen anyway, so I can always play with the gain for a brighter image. |

Have you considered any Wide UXGA resolution projectors (1920x1200)? Lot of bright powerhouse commercial machines are built in that 16:10 format. Epson PowerLite G5450WUNL is 4000 lumens and the line up just increases lumen output from that. The Panasonic PT-EZ570U comes in around 5000 lumens. A search for WUXGA machines over at ProjectorPeople.com comes up with a large number of models.
