Default Updated Samsung BD-P1000 Shipping

Here is some information for you potential Samsung BD-P1000 buyers:

I had one of the first Samsung BD-P1000 players. It showed a lot of grain and poor picture quality in most of my BRD movies, just like most of you have reported here. When I did my first report on this site, I only had one movie (Underworld) which seemed to be sharp and have very little grain.

I called Samsung yesterday, and they confirmed that many of the first units off the line had the chip problem of grain/noise and softness. They also said that a production change was made (they couldn’t tell me when) and that all of the current units coming off the line had been fixed. I called the retailer and informed them of this. They offered to exchange my unit for what they hoped would be one of the newer ones.

I played all of the movies that previously showed a lot of grain and poor overall picture quality on my first player, and I have to tell you, that I did see a difference (hardly any grain) in the picture quality between the old and new players.

The only thing that doesn’t make sense is that if a production change was made, how could have it been manufactured, shipped overseas, got to the retailers’ warehouse, shipped to the store and in my hands in a little over 30 days?

Because they probably didn't report the problem until they had changed production and could start doing something to fix it. Otherwise you just piss off more people than you have to. Plus it doesn't take that long to produce and then ship across the atlantic and then distrubute within the US if you have an effecient supply chain.

^This is what I have thought all along. While they can't offer anything more than a fix for existing players out there (or return) Why would they knowingly Continue to sell the player if it's faulty? Maybe they weren't. There was a week and a half where we were sold out of BD-P1000's and then we started steadily receiving them again. That period (about a month ago) must have been the revision period.

Just curious if there is a section in the player or on the packaging where we can see that we are getting a revised unit or not.

They want to sell as many as they can because they know its "lights out" once the Sony and Panasonic are available.

The more I think about it I believe Samsung rushed their player to market to avoid going head to head with Sony. How many enthusiats/consumers would choose Samsung over Sony at the same price? The Sammy will fade away quietly unless they decide to have a fire sale. I would not buy this unit for $500

I don't think the samsung is that bad....

it's just the sony looks to be that much better especially when the price differance is -zero-

Hopefully when I exchange my unit in ten days, the new player will be "fixed". I will take note of the build dates and other information on the back of the player and compare with the new player.
