I'm wondering what specific scenes people are using to show others what 3D is all about? I know there's a thread about BEST 3D discs, but none on specific scenes.
You know the scenario.... so and so is coming over and you want to show them how cool 3D on blu-ray is so you reach for ??? and cue it up to ???. I'm using a 110" screen with an Epson 5010 projector. Here's a few of my favorites: 1) HUBBLE. Starting with the AMAZING Imax countdown trailer. NOTHING wow's people more then this as a first impression! It starts all blurry and flat then slowly the countdown comes toward you then bursts into awesome 3D as the "camera" zooms thru the numbers! The sound also is amped up and makes for a great demo! I then let it play past the opening titles (which burst into tiny "stars" that fly right in your face!). I then play it through the shuttle launch. 2) HUGO. Starting with the Paramount logo and running thru the title "HUGO". Its a long segment. But has some truly amazing 3D goodness! The snow flying in your face just past the Paramount logo and then as the camera zooms into the train station...its just killer. Then it continues with amazing depth as HUGO runs through the labyrinth of passages inside the station. I like this sequence alot as it has objects coming out of the screen (snow) and great depth all rolled into one passage. Would love to hear what others use, so I can switch up my routine once in a while! Last edited by the13thman; 06-13-2019 at 12:38 PM. Reason: added link |

Love the Despicable Me scenes ... 1. When the moon is stolen and 2. When the ship crashes to earth and the point almost stabs ya.
Sammy The snake poking outta the screen Smurfs (eh!?) I know it is a surprise but when Gargamel grabs Papa Smurf at the end by the zap from the laser ... I am sure there is more .. will have a gander and get back to ya ![]() |

Chapter 3 on Sammy, gets em every time, snake is also great.
Any Kelly Slater surfing close up on Ultimate Wave Tahiti The lantern scene from Tangled The dam breaking in Open Season and the raid on the convenience store Some would disagree but the lightbike sequence from Tron looks pretty awesome to me Often overlooked, but Yogi Bear flying his makeshift plane is so crisp, the Doritos shot is also great The giant nebula fly through on Hubble 3D |

the fight and flight scenes in avatar, and the flying glow in the dark flower whatever part
imax intro is excellent, and it's also impressive to see deep sea 3d switch back and forth from 2d to 3d to see exactly how much you are missing when flat...no instant way to do this but on my sony player when i fast forward it goes into 2d, but when u go to regular speed it pops back into 3d and it just shows how much separation there is. on titles with weaker depth there isn't as much of a difference though. the dam scene in open season is good and the lantern scene in tangled is a showstopper also yogi bear is the only movie which made me blink (multiple times) due to stuff coming at you...which definitely counts for something lol i also usually demo the game super stardust hd, and sometimes gran turismo 5 Last edited by aaaa6344; 03-21-2012 at 10:18 PM. |

There's some in here I need to revisit! I have Open Season and will now have to check out the damn bursting scene again as a demo possibility. Tangled is great all the way thru! I need to figure out what would be good as an isolated sequence.
I usually look for scenes that start on a chapter number and that have good depth and pop out! It makes them easier to cue up! Forgot about 3D games but Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, (not Apocalypse version) is a $9 download on the PS3 and is STUNNING in 3D! Its very easy to play too (I'm not as good as my 14 year old with the controls!). Last edited by Pfreddy; 03-22-2012 at 01:54 AM. |

The attack on the Umbrella HQ in the beginning in Resident Evil Afterlife. Another scene is the one where Alice lands the plane on the building roof. This scene in particular shows how immersive 3D can be when combined with excellant audio, a fast paced edge of your seat moment and impressive 3D.
The opening of Final Destination 5(before they head out) all the way to the end of the bridge collapse. The opening where they are simply talking shows how real everything feels. The shot where the lead is looking out of the bus through the window is amazing. I actually felt like I was sitting there! For pop out I use the final explosion in the movie followed by the credits. Pop out doesn't get any better than this. I also use the new men in black trailer. The shot where Will Smith jumps off the building and the camera switches to first person view is spectacular! It feels like you are actually falling! I'm using an Optoma HD67 with a 140inch screen and Nvidia 3D Vision. I sit around seven feet away. Last edited by srinivas1015; 03-22-2012 at 09:23 AM. |

Beat me to it--
Especially on the last climactic wipeouts: With the camera going into, through, under, and BEHIND-under the killer wave, as it rolls by the water-level's-eye-view camera, in one shot....Real life, beat that, Sammy. ![]() (Oh, and then back to the fire-dance scene.) Quote:
So just the lantern MENU from Tangled had to do. |

Finally ordered this from YesAsia and got it yesterday. You are right, it's an Amazing 3D demo disc and while it has many great parts, I think Chapter 3 is the best place to cue up an extended demo sequence! The depth, pop out and colors in this chapter are the BEST!! I've been waiting to see FINDING NEMO on blu ray to see some of the great underwater color scenes (like the going to school bit at the start for all it's amazing color) but I think chapter 3 in SAMMY would be its equal! |

The codfish scene in "Under the Sea" the first dance scene and the slurpee scenne in Step Up 3D. Others I think would be a demo which I haven't ussed for a demo yet. the Doritos scene in Yogi Bear. |

(Sorry if this thread has already been made)
Okay, so I see we have a few threads here of people listing their favorite 3D movies. It's been a while since 3D movies have come to existence, and I think us as 3D TV owners have been well exposed to a variety of 3D films. What I want to know is can we get more specific other than selecting the entire movie? If you're short on time and you have friends coming over, or if you want to remember how awesome your 3D TV is, which movie will you pop into your blu-ray player and skip to which scene(s)? In other words, what scene(s) in the film will you always go back to, just to enjoy 3D all over again? NOTE: I'm not just looking for "the best pop-out" feature. I'm looking for everything and anything that you enjoy about the 3D film. For example, mine would be: Tron Legacy: Chapters -Main Title -The Grid -Games -Lightcycle Battle -Air Battle Labeling the time slot for the scene would also be helpful for others wanting to check your recommendation! |

Giving is the exact time of your favorite 3D scenes in the movie would be very helpful.....Also it would be cool idea if people would list the scenes where they see ghosting/crosstalk so other people can see if there set is showing it... I just watched Prometheus again and the scene (i do not know the exact time) when the 2 guys that get left behind encounter that snake like creature there is severe ghosting around the creature.... It had it on both of my sets.

Some of my favorite that come to mind:
Avatar: in the beginning when Worthington's character is waking up ![]() ![]() Titanic: when Rose slips and is dangling above the ocean with Jack holding onto her trying to get her back on board. Again Great depth. Prometheus: the beginning with the alien scenes . Just freaking awesome. ![]() The Hobbit: Gandalf, Saurn, and two other characters having a meeting (the beginning of the 2nd blu disc basically). Tremendous depth and detail. Just stunning to look at. There are others but the ones I posted above are some of my immediate favorites that come to mind first. |

The opening scene in 'Monsters vs Aliens, where the film 'melts' and see all that depth, and then pop outs.
The scene in "House of Wax" -saw it in the theater - where Charles Bronson gets up from the foreground and runs into the film to fight the hero was one of the most eye popping things I've ever seen in 3D, looked like an audience member ran into the movie. Thought of Keaton in Sherlock Jr. Not the same watching it at home, though. |
