On playstation.com, there is a playstation 3 site that talks about various things about the ps3. This is a question and answer to the memory card adapter:

How do I save my Playstation 2 Memory Card information to Playstation 3?

To use saved data on a Playstation 2 memory card, you must copy the data onto a virtual memory card within the hard disk. This requires a ps2/psone memory card adapter to copy the data to your Playstation 3. A memory card adapter is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flash card or smart media card.

I was hoping for something like this, I want to get rid of all my ps2 stuff but keep all the games. only thing is i have some cool arcade sticks, hopefully a usb adapter will come out for the ps3.

I can understand that you want to get rid of all your ps2 console. That is the point of backwards compatibility. I don't know about your arcade sticks though, in terms of using them with the ps3. Maybe there will be an arcade stick designed for the ps3 for certain fighting games.

Isn't this one of the things that will be available on the $600 model but not the $500 model? Or was I misreading on that?

I wanted to add a quick note for the mystery device for the ps3. It would make sense that Sony will make some kind of an add-on to allow us to copy our memory card files to the ps3.
