Lightbulb JUNE: The Month Where You Watch A Film You Usually Wouldn't

Now let's see how this'll work...

Every now and again threads are opened up called "Classics you should of seen, but haven't" or what ever, as we see many people list classic film they haven't seen for a number of reasons. Well this is your excuse to seek out those films along with others to finall check them out and hopefully open you up to some new areas of film you should of watched by now:

Is the reason you've never tackled Citizen Kane or Double Indemnity yet is because Black and White translate to boring and tedious to you?

Worried about watching Oldboy or City of God because you find you get overwhelmed by subtitles?

Have you never attempted to watch Metropolis or City Lights because Silent movies are tough to swallow?

Never tackled Lawrence of Arbia or Once Upon A Time in America because of the lengthy run times?

Never been a fan of Horror, or always sat unamused a comedies?

Or never checked out that big Hollywood blockbuster you thought looked good because of the naff reviews?

Well this is your excuse to begin tackling those films, post any films you thought you should watch but never got around to or even wanted to watch, and maybe we'll see some people broaden their film watch lists and post good experiences (or disappointed ones) through the month of June...

Some films I've got planned:

Gone With The Wind (always looked to boring to me)
City Lights and Modern Times (Just never watched Chaplin)
Chariots of Fire (another one that just seemed boring to me)
The Sixth Sense (always been put off from what I saw as a kid and I always knew the twist) Along with others...

So get posting your thoughts on what you might want to tackle in this month?

Think I'll tackle Oldboy and City of God now that you mention it.

Great movies. City of God is a top 5 gangster film imo. Oldboy has the best twist of any movie by far.

It'll likely be The Godfather trilogy for me.
Never seen them but recently picked up the set on Blu-ray.
It'll be June when I watch them (if not sooner)

You could start by actually reading the OP before posting.

As for me, I have Lawrence of Arabia, and haven't watched it yet, so thanks for mentioning Foggs. That'll be one of mine for next month.

Yeah, being the Movies board, thought he was referring to the June dump of theatrical movies, now that May and July have become the "blockbuster" seasons, and we get desperate enough in between to go see Grown Ups 2.

As for home-theater movies, yes, the above is a perfectly GOOD reason to stay at home and bone up on your unseen classics. (Never seen Chaplin??)
If we can't make it a National Film Literacy Month, just those of us here should make it a new-year's-resolution month to discover three to five new classics on disk before the month is out.
If you can't afford to "Blind-buy them on Criterion ", your local library system is usually slopping over with DVD copies of the Essential Classics for free--And with 7-day loans, it's a good incentive to see one a week.

So I jumped the gun early and watched Oldboy today. That may be the single most disturbing movie I've ever seen in my life.

Interestingly enough, I picked up Lawrence of Arabia because it was cheap on Amazon and I've always heard it's an amazing film. Then I saw the runtime. But I do plan on watching it this June when my wife goes out of the country. I figure I'll be in the long haul for that one. That'll be my "abnormal" June flick.

Since I'm trying to get more into classic films, this could be very helpful.

I still need to watch Lawrence of Arabia and The Godfather part 2.

Foreign languages have never bothered me. Letters from Iwo Jima is one of my favorites.

I also need to dive into Citizen Kane.

I'm just posting the suggestions above aren't set in stone, they're just general questions to get you guys thinking about films you've never watched.

Also you can watch more than one film as well. I'm going to add the Before trilogy to my films as well (well, at least the first two films if I can't get around to the last one in cinemas).

Thanks! I've seen about half of these but I know Asian cinema is a big blind spot for me and I'm going to try and improve on that.

That's the exact reason I've never watched it. Someone ruined it on me so I've never made a point to watch it. I think you've inspired me to give it a go now!
