Default Anime Sols: Anime Kickstarters

Here's something to be excited about:

https://www.animesols.com/

This is the first time Japanese companies come together to release anime directly to North America without any licensing or middleman. Basically you can watch and support series like Kickstarter for them to get DVD sets. No Blu-ray for now, but they will consider it for titles that get a very high demand.

The company is formed by Yomiuri Television, Tezuka Production, Tatsunoko and Pierrot. All the anime on the site right now is from them, but any company can come in the future and ask the site to crowdfund their titles.

It's basically a website for series that wouldn't be able to come out to DVD in any other way without losing profit. If any of the titles on there don't reach their goal in the 2 months and a half deadline, then they're never gonna come out at all. So spreading the word everywhere online is very important. And people outside North America can support if they paypal someone from there and ask them to pledge in their place and ship the DVD set later.

If it has Tezuka estate's own blessing, then seems to be directed toward getting the obscure Tezuka titles afforded and licensed for disk--Seems legit and not another fan poll/streaming site.
Tezuka is good as a golden-age curiosity (mostly for, ahem, people who thought Disney did animated movies of Shakespeare... ), so there's some cultural ground--Just that although I'd fight for Black Jack, I don't know how passionately I'd fight for "Bagi: the Monster of Nature" beyond the obvious reason

Bagi is the 6th TV Special made for 24 Hour TV. So if the first boxset containing the first 3 reaches its goal, it'll be part of the next set, along with Bremen Four and Prime Rose.

Personally I'm much more excited for Prime Rose than Bagi. Such a fun retro sci-fi adventure. And the male hero's brother is the cutest little troublemaker ever. I really recommend the manga as well, even though it's not translated the art alone is worth it.

A new set containing Tezuka's Bremen 4, Prime Rose, and Bagi is now up for crowdfunding!

Various other updates about the site:
  • Creamy Mami Set 1 and Black Jack TV Set 1 succeeded their goals.
  • New goals for this new round are Dear Brother, Pastel Yumi, Black Jack Set 2 and Tezuka movies Set 2 (as I mentioned) with another still-unknown show popping up later tonight and Creamy Mami Set 2 sometime soon as well.
  • When pledging for Black Jack Set 2, there is an option to order the first set as well. Or you can wait for it to become available on The Right Stuf.

Let's hope that no more shows fail to meet their goals this time! Their deadlines are more stretched apart, so that should help.
