Default The 'Will They Have It In Stores' Thread

So each week I'm going to post a list of new blu rays to find out which, if any, stores are carrying them. The main stores I'm focusing on are Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart....though I'd also like to know if Barnes and Noble and FYE carry them.

This week, it is the following 6/4/13 releases:

Alfred Hitchcock: The Essential Collection
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry / Race With the Devil
Earthquake
The Invisible Man
Mad Mad Beyond Thunderdome
Mad Max Trilogy
The Mummy (1932)
Phantom of the Opera (1943)
The Road Warrior
Rope
Scum
The Shadow (1994)

I'm probably going to order these two from Amazon, just so I can get a jump on the free shipping after both films total over $25.

I looked in Movie Stop for Dirty Mary Crazy Larry/Race with the Devil, and I also looked through Barnes and Noble. I'll probably have better luck with Earthquake, but I'd just as soon grab it online along with the other Blu-ray.

Alfred Hitchcock: The essential collection can already be found in some best buy stores. I saw it as part of an endcap that had numerous collections on sale ( ex. Mel Brooks collection for 35.00) .

I don't care anymore. All the best stuff - at least the stuff I want to see - is online.

I only go to the big boxes for batteries.

Oh shoot! I forgot about this one!

It has every Hitchcock Blu-ray I could ever want, but I feel like I should wait for the complete collection to drop...

What should I do?

I'm thinking that I'll probably order Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection in the not-too-distant future. Even at today's price ($127 on Amazon), it's a rocking deal for 15 Hitchcock films, but the price will inevitably drop.

I've been holding out on this one simply because I've been spending time watching other Blu-rays, and I want a luxuriously-paced month to enjoy these 15 Hitchcock films one-by-one in the future. I'll probably order it when I'm finished going through The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series Blu-ray set (I'm wrapping up Season Two right now.).

I already own North by Northwest on Blu-ray, since it was one of the very first movies that I purchased in the format, so it's tougher for me to justify purchasing the 5-movie Essentials set if I own one out of five.

Now, I'd prefer to own single stand-alone Blu-rays of all these movies. If I see the stand-alone discs at a used store or if I see them drop noticeably in price, then I'll go for gradual purchases over buying the box sets (by purchasing the region-free UK sets of the ones not yet available here). I'll probably just go with the Masterpiece Collection set, though.

Any way we can throw a petition together to have Scream Factory releases available at Brick and Mortar?

Great idea for a thread. I do most of my shopping online these days but occasionally I like to stroll into a big box and pick stuff up in person. To the OP: When ever possible could you add the price(s) to the available titles? If something is cheaper at Best Buy vs. online, I'm sure people would want to know. I'm interested in the Mad Max set but only for the absolute lowest price. Otherwise I'll just grab Thunderdome by itself.

Great thread!
I'm happy to hear the Alfred Hitchcock set should be in store at best buy. I probably won't be able to resist grabbing it if I see it. Can't wait to have The Birds on bluray.

I kind of want to get the Masterpiece collection because it's almost everything he has made, but the only ones I am interested in seeing are all in the Essentials box. Plus, it's got an embossed slipcover, it's "limited edition", and it's a digipak.

I've thought about waiting for single releases of the Blu-rays in the Essentials set, but I'd rather have them all in one place than have 5 seperate Blu-rays (even though I did want the North by Northwest Digibook, until I heard it was being included in this set). I desperately wanted a Vertigo release, and I was hoping for a Digibook later in the year, but I think I'll go with this set since it also has The Birds (which I've been wanting to see again) and Psycho (which I almost got three U&Ss ago).

This set includes everything a Hitchcock fan really needs and has all the better transfers (these are the major reasons I picked it up today). I couldn't justify paying more than $120 for the Masterpiece Collection since it includes a couple of films I've never been much of a fan of - Family Plot, Marnie, etc. Psycho, North By Northwest, The Birds, Vertigo and Rear Window are truly his essential films besides The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps (luckily released individually by Criterion). I would love to purchase Rope though.
