It will be a Universal release , Universal discs are playable on all players as they dont region code their releases.

To me, this is one of the many benefits of Blu-ray, and allows me to pick up many US releases without having to have a multi-region player

Universal.... seems to be obsessed with releasing 80's movies exclusively in VC1 with DNR'd masters

Day one, ofcourse... but I hope Universal fix the slight audio problem the DVD had ; it was missing some brief dialogue.

Still, Kelly Lebrock in H.D? Can't go wrong with that!

I think he is saying that Universal will recycle the same master that was used for the DVD. Let's hope not, but it wouldn't be the first time Universal did that rather than create a new scan.

The only Hughes film I wasn't that fussed with so I won't bother with this one I don't think.

I actually don't think I have even seen that one?!?!?!

Are the transfers for Uncle Buck and Planes Trains as bad as they say as I haven't bothered with them because of the reviews of here?

They also gave 16 Candles a crap rating but I watched it the other night and thought it was actually ok.

It's all relative.

Sixteen Candles and Planes, Trains & Automobiles are fine. Not the greatest transfer in the world, but far from the worst and a definite step up from DVD. Sound is pretty good on both too.

Uncle Buck, again, better than the DVD version, but not the greatest transfer. Audio's not brilliant and the picture isn't quite as good as the other two.

Depends on how much you like the John Hughes movies I guess, and whether you get too hung up over what might have been. Personally I'd get all three over their DVD counterparts, but the naysayers are right in saying that all of them could have been better.

The transfer for Planes is nothing to call home about, but it's worth picking up for the two-part retrospective on John Hughes. Very mysterious man.

£8 in store HmV was not going to bother based on reviews but love the film not going to get another transfer soon so bagged.
