I checked to see if there was a thread devoted specifically to Indie games, but I couldn't find one. I also wanted to post this on neogaf, but I don't have thread starting privileges yet.
Anyway, I wanted a recommendation for some good indie games. They do not have to be limited to PS3. NO SIDE SCROLLERS though. I have no interest in them. I realize that probably takes away 90% of good games, but side scrollers are just not my thing. What I really like are adventure games along the lines of Full Throttle. Your recommendations? |

PixelJunk Monsters The Unfinished Swan Flower Flow those are some of my favorites. Not sure how indie they all are, but I know the average gamer probably only knows one or two. I consider anything not blatantly mainstream or common to be indie. ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, not to be pendantic, but define "indie". Does Double Fine count?
Costume Quest, Stacking, Super Stardust and Critter Crunch were all great but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to consider those devs "indie". I think with things like Steam, PSN and Kickstarter breaking down the barriers of requiring a big publisher to get something out, I think the lines between publishers, dev, and indie are starting to blur. Some big devs who used to partner with big publishers all the time now suddenly can do smaller projects as self-published but it feels wierd to call those guys indies. |

I don't play alot of indies, but I can think of a few recommendations...
Killing Floor is an awesome horde mode FPS. Red Orchestra 2 is worth a look if you are into tactical shooters. Skullgirls is a really fun 2D fighting game, looks gorgeous with it's art deco aesthetic complimenting it's great animation, yet plays suprisingly fast. Terrific tutorial too. Though, there isn't a large fighting roster. Hotline Miami is also a really awesome, and ultra-violent action game (it's in an overhead view like GTA II, and looks like an 8-bit game if you find that a deal breaker). |

I don't know if it is an "indie game", but I really enjoyed I Am Alive. Think of it like a scaled down precursor to The Last of Us (no "zombies", but a grim post-apocalyptic setting). Some fighting, some shooting, some platforming, etc., and quite affecting, as well. It can be found on the PSN store.
