Default ABC's "Agent Carter" Discussion (2015-2016)

Quote:
Marvel Developing ‘Agent Carter’ TV Series

EXCLUSIVE: The “one shot” short films featured as extras on Marvel movies’ DVD releases are becoming a hotbed for TV series ideas. After one such short, Item 47 on The Avengers DVD about the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., led to the new ABC/Marvel series, another one may also spawn a series project for ABC. Marvel is notoriously secretive about their development, and no one would comment, but I hear the company is working on a concept for a potential TV series inspired by Agent Carter, a one shot, which will be featured on the upcoming Blu-ray release of Iron Man 3. Directed by Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, Agent Carter brings back Captain America’s girlfriend Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, and chronicles her life as a budding secret agent after her boyfriend is stranded in ice. (Watch a clip below.) I hear the project is in very early stages, one of several in the works at Marvel, and is in the process of locking in a writer. It is unclear if Atwell would reprise her role if Agent Carter comes to fruition. A Marvel action series with a female lead would fit right into ABC’s wheelhouse of female-skewing dramas with a strong lead and would be a throwback to such network series as Alias. The Iron Man 3 DVD with the Agent Carter short will be released next Tuesday, the same day Marvel’s first series for ABC, Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., debuts.

Yes! The first thing I thought when I finished watching the new 'Marvel One Shot' was how badly I wanted to see a movie based around Peggy and her early days at S.H.I.E.L.D., so a TV show with her would be even more satisfactory. Hopefully they can lure Atwell back as well.

Nice. My one complaint about the Captain America movie was how the ended it with Cap being frozen and waking up in modern day... I wish that they had left that open so that they could have made another Cap-in-the-1940s movie.

I am, too.

I'd also be perfectly happy if the present-day Carter, Amanda Righetti, were to star. She's supposed to be leaving The Mentalist by the end of the upcoming season, so she'd be free. In fact, when I saw the topic title, I assumed it'd be a present-day series, and be about Sharon Carter, rather than Peggy Carter.

(Yes, I know she wasn't actually named in the movie, but it seemed obvious, at least to me, that that was who she was supposed to be.)

Then again, I suppose she could always just appear in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

On edit: Of course, I just discovered that Emily Van Camp is playing Sharon Carter in The Winter Soldier. So there goes that theory...

On the other hand, I'm just assuming that she's Sharon Carter -- the IMDb lists her as "Agent 13" -- they could always claim she's someone else.

Wouldn't she be dead?

My understanding is her series would still be just after WWII... way in the past... so outside of time-travel (which they could do on this series), there wouldn't be a way for her to be on the SHIELD show.

I'm all for this as long as Atwell is... and if they find better people to work on the sound than the Agent Carter short... which they obviously will but I thought it was distractingly overbaked and not mixed/edited well.

She was still alive in the comics as of a few years ago... as a very old, frail woman with dementia in a nursing home. Plot twist for the series, perhaps?

Hayley Atwell Says She Would "Definitely" Like To Star In AGENT CARTER TV Series

We've already seen what appeared to be Hayley Atwell made up to look like an old woman during principal photography of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but the actress has now confirmed that she has indeed shot new scenes for the highly anticipated sequel. "I went over earlier this year to Pittsburgh to film, so all the stuff is new footage." As for the recently reported plans for an Agent Carter TV series, Atwell had this to say about the chances of her reprising the role in that. "I read about that too. The one-shot was so successful, the fanbase were like, 'We want more of Peggy!'. I think Marvel probably take that very seriously, and it's certainly something I would be a part of doing. I'd be interested to show different sides of Peggy. I think she could be a great role model and a great member of the Marvel Universe. I love the Marvel lot, they're really great people to work with, so it would be nice to go back and work with them again. I'd definitely do it." So, it sounds like we should definitely expect to see Atwell return as Peggy if the series moves ahead! What do you guys think?

Two months ago if you mentioned this, I'd say it was a dreadful idea. But the Agent Carter One Shot on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray was amazing, and I'd be mad to turn down more of that.

Grain of salt needed, The Mirror is reporting it, but the show may be a go:

Quote:
As the teaser says, the tabloid The Mirror is reporting that actress Hayley Atwell, who portrayed Agent Peggy Carter in Joe Johnston's Captain America The First Avengers has started to work with Marvel in a Agent Carter TV show set to premiere this fall.

The Mirror's source says that:

““This is a massive deal for both Hayley and Marvel comic fans

Hayley is absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity and is incredibly grateful to Marvel fans who have basically been campaigning for a spin-off show for the past six months. It means moving to LA for six months but her friends and family are all behind her, and this is a huge opportunity.”

In october Atwell said about the possibilites of an Agent Carter show “The one-shot was so successful, the fanbase were like, ‘We want more of Peggy!’

The Mirror's source continued:

Quote:
“I think Marvel probably take that very seriously, and it’s certainly something I would be a part of doing. I’d be interested to show different sides of Peggy.
Although she’s kick-ass, and she can be aggressive and just as competent as the men, it’d be nice to show that she’s a feminist in a way. It’s not just about her being aggressive and as aggressive as the men in those action sequences, but being able to be a little bit more rounded as a person.”

She's by far the best Marvel girl so far. Natalie Portman as Jane Foster being the worst.

So I noticed at the end of the new Age of Ultron trailer that Hayley Atwell is listed in the cast on the credits card. I wonder if she'll be Old Peggy, following on from The Winter Soldier or if she appears in a Cap flashback.
