The specific title-related one, or the one with Merriweather wanding "Make it Blu!"?

(Seen the latter; it's for all their disks, and it's been out since the Cars SD.)

The specific title-related one is on the beginning of Ratatouille, and it looks spectacular.

Can't wait to see it. Thought I'd at least pop the Rat disc in for a few minutes last night but it ended up being all about Cars.

My wife and I thought it looked like it needed cleaned up some more. I'm sure it will look great by the release date.

This was painstakingly computer restored just a few years ago. I don't think they are going to do any more restoration on the film. Personally I thought the DVD looked great.

I had the same reaction. I need to watch it again. There was one point where they had a side-by-side comparison of restoration and original and the restoration looked good, but the rest of the scenes looked disappointing.

Did you watch it all the way through?

When it first came out, I thought, wow, that looks pretty bad. Then halfway through the ad they say that it's been newly restored and it goes to a split screen showing half the screen looking good, then it goes full screen with the restored image.

I am thinking that the reason this is the first title to be released on Blu-ray is because of its detail. The argument that upscaled DVD is just as good as Hi Def will not work for this title. I stole this from IMDB.

The elaborate background paintings usually took seven to ten days to paint. By contrast, a typical animation background takes one workday to complete.

For anyone who has seen this movie knows what I am talking about. the backgrounds were inspired by medieval tapestries.

Hopefully Disney will release another Pixar movie on BD before the fall of 08, but we will probably be lucky to get another with the release of wall E next fall.

The trailer was so impressive to my father in-law (I got him a PS3 for his birthday) he asked me what the resolution for BR was... I was like, uh, I think it's 6 times better than a DVD. Then screen text pops up 6 TIMES THE RESOLUTION OF DVD or something. At that point he was ready to replace his movie collection

No it's not. It's 1080p24* on March Of The Penguins, and looks amazing

For another look at great vintage classic animation in 1080p, look at the 1957 Mars and Beyond** Disney film on the Roving Mars BD.

btw Ratatouille's Blu-ray has a great, mostly 2-D, widescreen 1080p 11m short called Your Friend The Rat, cheezelellicious.

Now if you wanna see how good The Jungle Book*** looks on widescreen 1080, be quick to watch the very beginning of the disc when you insert Ratatouille on the player. It goes by so quickly.

About the SB trailer, I'm sure the final Blu-ray Disc will look 100% better than this promo trailer which doesn't looks as good as the Technirama 24mm x 36mm* sequential exposure "separations" should end up looking.

*(The above mentioned animated classics are "just" *15mm x 21mm, **15mm x 21, and ***12mm x 21mm, respectively)

Agree completely. I wasn't very impressed at all and there's no way the disc is going to look that poor.

It's strange. I keep seeing the trailer and DVD and BD releases and it looks crisper and brighter every time I watch it.

I also can't wait for Nemo, which should have been Disney's first BD, IMO.

I wouldn't call classic 2-D animation "old school" any more than I would call the Mona Lisa "old school." Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty is a moving work of art that required the painstaking drawing and painting of thousands of individual cels to create the illusion of movement. Walt Disney spent nearly a decade working on this masterpiece and it is ranked as one of the greatest animated films ever made.

I enjoy the computer animated films of Pixar and others, however, I would never compare the process to hand-drawn animation. There is simply no comparison. Thankfully, John Lasseter and others from Pixar are now in charge at Disney animation and they have every intent of continuing the production of classic 2-D animation along side the computer animated fare.
