When I moved to my current location earlier this year, I had a mere seven steelbooks in tow (Dark Knight trilogy and Bourne series) and easily protected them with bubble wrap and a towel. Now that I'm moving again, I have amassed more than sixty steelbooks since April.
Does anyone have any advice in achieving safe and easy transport? I have Steel Shells on each one, so neither one should get scratched. I'm concerned about dents. I'm also curious if anyone knows if slotted, padded cases that would fit multiple movies exist. Any help would be hot. Thanks in advance. I begin moving the day after Christmas. |

People have been moving around for ... forever. If they're are able to transport items like from a 65" plasma screen til a refrigerator unscathed from one place to another I'm sure a box of steelbooks should be manageable...

A bit common sense is required here.
If you pack tightly no dents will occur, if you pack with spaces you need lots of cushion material. Either way you should be good. Steelbooks only dent when a bit of pressure is put on a single point, therefore you should avoid pointy things. |

i recently moved... my steels are in sleeves... i mixed them in with the rest of my movies, just making sure 2 steels didn't touch one another...
i didnt pack the boxes to capacity either... and used bubble wrap and packing air to keep things from moving... mine came out unscathed... |

how far are you moving?... if its within driving distance and you are doing it yourself I wouldn't worry about it too much, some boxes and light padding will do the trick... its your stuff so you know for sure you will take care of it... now if someone else is doing it for you or the boxes see an airplane then thats another story

If steelbooks are that fragile, delicate, and very easy to damage, I wouldn't buy them. Buy the regular armary case blu-rays, which are more durable, then you don't have to worry about treating them with kid gloves when you're moving them, as if they're made of glass.

I would suggest wrapping each one in bubble in bubble wrap and placing them into a box full of styrofoam peanuts, but that's only because I've kept all of that from packages that have been sent to me and thus it's free.
Otherwise, maybe wrap shirts around them and take them to your new place in your clothing boxes? |

Go to USPS.com and order a bunch of Priority Mail "O-DVDS" boxes and individually box each SteelBook
Then pack them up in a larger box side-by-side like books on a shelf (as opposed to stacking them on top of each other) Those Priority Mail boxes are free ![]() ...you just can't use them to mail items unless you're willing to pay Priority Mail shipping prices ![]() Anywho, I ship 2 SteelBooks individually boxed in the O-DVDS which I then bubble-wrap and put in a "0-1096 L" which then goes in a Priority Mail padded flat rate envelope that costs $5.75 to ship & my trader-friends really dig it ![]() All of that stuff is free, though you can only order 20 padded envelopes or so every week or 2 It would probably be overkill to double-box & put them in those envelopes, but that's your call of course ![]() Hope that helps ![]() -Rod ![]() Oh yeah, DO NOT use the seals on those little O-DVDS boxes, as it's super-strong adhesive and very difficult to open once sealed ...you'll basically have to rip open the boxes to retrieve your Steels, which would NOT be fun ~or~ safe ![]() ![]() Order a roll of Priority Mail stickers... also free ![]() Last edited by moviefiend1977; 12-24-2013 at 05:47 AM. |

Get some Ikea Jattene boxes at £5.25 a pair, these are very tough and can be flattened for storage after use. Put each steelbook in a size D padded envelope, Mail Lite are about £12 per 100 from Amazon or ebay.

I recently moved back to the UK from the Philippines. What I did was place a thin layer of bubble wrap between each Steelbook, then bubble wrap them in bundles of ten, then place in box lined with bubble wrap. Of 220 Steelbooks shipped not one was damaged in any way. They survived an 8,000 mile boat Journey intact. Also be sure to poly bag each Steelbook to protect from moisture and possibly fumigant.

Those are fun to fire. I have a paratrooper SKS and love going to the range or out in the woods to shot it. Also have a couple of Nagants and a semi auto .22.
Fired higher caliber stuff like 50 cal when I was in the service though. Went ahead and ordered a bunch of stuff from USPS so I'll be set to ship out SB's if ever need to. Thanks to movie for the info. ![]() |

Dang... Ya'll are a tough croud. Jeez. Isn't this a discussion forum? To ask ask questions and stuff about steelbooks?
Ooooookay. Now that we got that outta the way... This is a very legit concern. I recently went through the same thing. I moved a couple months ago and had to determine the best way to move over 100 steelbooks, most of which are valued between $50-$100+ a piece. I moved all my steelbook, digipacks, slipcovers, and amaray blu rays in about 5 regular sized moving boxes (like the one pictured in this thread). I put about 30-40 steelbook in each box (all either in plastic shell cases or unopened). I did not put anything between the steelbooks but I made sure to put them in the box spine up. I would not recommend laying them flat and stacking them on top of each other. That creates too much pressure on the flat surface. 1. I put a generous layer of thick bubble wrap on the bottom and the sides of the box. 2. Placed the steelbooks/blu rays spine up in rows for the bottom layer. 3. Added thick layer of bubble wrap on top of the bottom layer. 4. Placed top layer in spine up just the same. 5. Added thick layer of bubble wrap overtop the top layer. 6. Made certain there was no wiggle room but also that the steelbooks were not super scrunched to the point of pressure. 7. Closed and sealed the box with generous amount of tape. I estimate one of my boxes alone was probably worth about $2K plus. All boxes rode with me to my new place (which was in the same zip code ![]() Upon unpacking a couple weeks later, all steelbooks and all digipacks/other blu rays including all of my prized slipcovers remained 100% perfect. It was a complete success. The whole padding/organizing/boxing process took probably about 2-3 hours, and it was worth every second of effort. Cheers, and good luck ![]() jimmyv |

Sounds like you get scalped pretty hard on a regular basis, because a quick browse through a couple pages of your collection pretty much every single one tops out at $30 max....and almost all still available for said price
