Wow- the 3D Film archive is knocking it out of the park this year! We have DRAGONFLY SQUADRON coming from Olive, The BUBBLE going to Kino, and now Flicker Alley taking on the 3D RARITIES Collection.

Flicker Alley is a perfect home for this. They release some truly amazing stuff - Their four Cinerama Blu-Rays are among my most prized discs. I can't wait to see a list of what films will be included!

Any news on this release? Sounds pretty amazing.

Jerry Beck has an article on The Adventures of Sam Space, which will be on this disc.

cartoonresearch the-adventures-of-sam-space-1953

I did a quick flick through the anaglyph version, looks to have pretty good dimension to it, though I'll save it for a full viewing when I get the restored version on the disc.

Looking forward to this and Boo Moon. Can't wait. Vintage stereo animation is of particular interest. Wish WB and Disney would release their 50s 3d short subjects too.

The quality of the 3-D on SAM SPACE is excellent. That terrible circa 1980's anaglyphic conversion is a far cry from how it looks in true 3-D.

Meanwhile, 62 years ago...

The restored prologue with Beany and Cecil will be on 3-D RARITIES, preserved from the original 35mm left/right negatives. That's the short they're watching in the iconic Life magazine images.

I'm guessing April or May. The release date is June 2015.

Yes, indeed. I'll make sure it's 100% region free.

It's taken 30 years to assemble and we want everybody to enjoy this rare material!

Yeah that last paragraph got me excited.

NOTE: Fans of 3-D "Pop-Out" should play portions of this disc every single time they fire up their systems: tons of off-screen effects are present. And almost all of it better than anything you'll see in a modern 3-D film.

Taken 30 years to assemble, I'm gobsmacked

I'm with you guys... the "3D Pop Out" comment is what sold me on the release. I have little interest in artsy fartsy 3D. Give me "gimmicky" 3D any day of the week. I love me some good pop out effects.

It's 3-D Summer at MoMA, including the June 13 New York premiere of 3-D RARITIES.

Don't miss it on the big screen!
