Default "LAGAAN" in HD on ZeeTV HD... Hope for Bluray alive?

I have a habit on weekend to schedule recording of newly unwatched Hindi movies to be telecast on various Hindi HD channels; so that I can watch these movies later at my ease.
Surprisingly, last Sunday I found 'Lagaan' movie having a scheduled telecast on Zee Tv HD in the afternoon 1pm. So I recorded it and watched the same last night.

Few observations:

- This was a really an HD transfer; not an up-scaled DVD type transfer; as I had observed in few movies on Colors HD such as 'Hasee Toh Fasee' etc.
You can call it equivalent to the Web-HDRip quality.

- All the day scenes looked pretty good. I remember watching this movie in theater on 30th June 2001 in a matinee show and post that date, I think this is the best version I have come across so far, after the DVD I watched that was released in 2007.

- I observed lot of Black Crush in darker/night scenes.

- Movie was telecast in its theatrical length of 224 Minutes.

- Sound was Stereo as the channel comes with Stereo AAC sound only. However there was no problem with the stereo sound. It was properly arranged. In few scenes, I liked the background music sounding pretty well.

After seeing the movie in better than DVD quality, I seriously wish Lagaan Bluray gets released soon.

I have taken few screenshots on my 40" TV from a digital camera. Pardon my pathetic photography skills. Few pics look blurred because the camera couldn't capture the moving objects well or probably I don't know how to take photos...
There are plenty of pics; so I have put them in spoiler tag.
Imagine watching full movie through these pics

Good to hear Lagaan HD broadcast is of good quality. Hope the BD will be out soon, but we have been hearing it will be out soon for the last 2-3 years.

In the meantime, how can I get this HDTV recording? How big is the file?

Well.... This was recorded in the HDD of set top box; hence no idea about file size. And I don't know how to decrypt and copy files from HDTV...

Thanks. I just wanted to know. I don't have TV at home (don't ask, long story ).

I was wondering if I can get access to such HDTV recordings from friends in form of media files to run from laptop.

Those screenshots look really good, thanks bro. I know many people waiting for this blu ray. The tranfer looks good, but any idea where Zee would source the transfer? Would it be from Excel, or is this something Zee does for their HD channel?

Hi technobhatt, How are you? After a long time you are online.
Even I do the same thing, I always check all HD channels to see which movie is scheduled and I record them to watch with family or to see the quality if movie is old/unreleased on Blu-ray. So recorded "Lagaan" too, but didn't get a chance to watch the movie yet, however watched the climax live and found that satisfactory and now there is a hope for "Lagaan" Blu-ray because I have seen "Lagaan" "Delhi Belly" and "Rang De Basanti" Blu-ray releasing soon ads inside the Excel Blu-rays.

So we already have "Rang De Basanti" now, so may be next is "Lagaan" or "Delhi Belly".

Sad Part : In my most recent Excel purchase (around 4-5 movies) there was new ad which don't have "Lagaan" and "Delhi Belly".

Wow ! That's amazing, I really can't believe it...that you actually remember the exact date and show time of the movie you watched over 13 years ago, I'm impressed. I watch Spider-man 2 and best I can tell you is that it was a few days ago.

Well I don't remember or note the dates for each movie..
It's just that I remember it for Lagaan and few other movies...
Those were school times and I was enjoying summer vacations. I went to watch this movie with my younger bro and 2 other cousins...and we had a real blast in theater because there were not much people in the matinee show and we were standing and jumping on the seats during the match in the movie
It was 30th June and last day of summer vacation because the next day on 1st July was new school year to be started... I don't know how many times I told my friends next day in school that how awesome Lagaan movie is

LAGAAN has not aged well at all. I would rather see average DEVDAS on bluray. As the latter aged well.

I truly hope this makes it to bluray soon as well. I really want to see it, but cannot even find a NTSC Region 1 DVD with complete English subs.

When on bluray, this will be day 1 for me.

It is hard to believe but a huge flop movie like SAAWARIYA is released by Sony Columbia studios on BluRay. and many here consider it one of the best transfers if not the very best in Full HD.

But an oscar nomited film for Best Foreign language LAGAAN with one of the current superstar actor in it is not on BluRay and Sony-Columbia still has overseas US rights for it.

Either producer Aamir Khan doesnt give a damn anymore or what?

unless the production house has its own home video company like yashraj has, i dont think any indian producer will ever give a damn about home video releases.

Having said that, i have read at the time of taare zameen par dvd release that amir khan had some interest /supervision in the home video authoring, including some at the time of lagaan dvd. then there is that shitty filmmaker sajid khan ofcourse who had involvment in houseful/hey babby releases. Other than these instances, which are rarest of the rare, i dont think anyone should care for any care from producers for home video versions, irrespective of how commercially big successes the movies were. Their involvement literally stops at the point the movie goes to theatres because even satellite rights get sold before that.

We just have to be plain lucky to get a BD of our fav movie. period.

What makes the whole scenario worse is that the BD releases for Lagaan & Delhi Belly had been teased by Excel Home Video (who also released AK's other relatively low-profile productions like Dhobi Ghat & Peepli Live on BD, along with Rang De Basanti, a film which he did not produce, but apparently had an active hand in getting released on BD)...

For the past couple of years the hit new releases in Hindi usually get Blu-Rays. I'm surprised that Delhi Belly never got a Blu-Ray, though, since that was released well in to the Blu-Ray era.

The situation is far worse with Tamil and Telugu films, though surprisingly Malayalam Blu-Rays are still being released fairly regularly.
