The Beguiled

Two Mules For Sister Sara

Clint Eastwood is a hard-hitting high plains drifter who rides into town and single-handedly rescues a local nun (Shirley MacLaine) from a gang of attackers. After meeting a band of Mexican revolutionaries bent on resisting the French occupation of Mexico, the cowboy and Sister Sara decide to join forces with the freedom fighters and set off on a deadly mission to capture the enemy's garrison. But along the way, a steamy romance develops between them when the soft-spoken hero discovers the nun is not what she seems. Ending with a violent climax at the well-protected fort, this action-packed western classic cemented Eastwood's status as a true cinematic superstar!

Play Misty For Me

Clint Eastwood made his directorial debut with this contemporary thriller about psychotic obsession. Eastwood also takes the lead in the starring role as Dave Garver, a popular radio disc jockey who repeatedly receives on-air phone requests from a sexy female fan to "play Misty for me". When the woman, Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter), orchestrates a rendezvous with Dave at his favorite nightspot, the two begin a torrid affair. But when Dave decides to end the relationship, Evelyn's obsession turns to violence. Soon everything and everyone in Dave's life becomes a target for Evelyn's increasingly deadly campaign of terror. Beautifully photographed on location in Eastwood's hometown of Carmel, California, Play Misty for Me continues to be considered one of the great modern-day thrillers.

Coogan's Bluff

Clint Eastwood stars as Walt Coogan, a soft-spoken, straightforward, Arizona lawman who is sent to New York City to extradite captured murderer James Ringerman (Don Stroud). Coogan slips up, Ringerman escapes again, and the hunt is on! Coogan's unorthodox law enforcement techniques don't go over too well with frustrated NYC Police Lieutenant McElroy (Lee J. Cobb), who can't decide which is worse...the prisoner, or the lawman!

The Eiger Sanction

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this international intrigue action thriller that takes place on the Swiss Alps.Hemlock, a retired professional assassin (Eastwood), who has turned toward the calmer pursuit of art collecting, is suddenly forced out of retirement to hunt a deadly double agent who murdered a close friend. The hunt takes Eastwood on a breathtaking journey up the Swiss Alps with a team of mountain climbers - one of whom is the man he seeks though his identity is as yet unknown.The top-notch action film, based on the novel by Trevanian, features some of the most exciting mountain climbing sequences ever filmed.

High Plains Drifter

Clint Eastwood's second film as a director finds the celebrated action star returning to his familiar Old West stomping grounds and his internationally acclaimed role of "The Man With No Name." This time, The Stranger (Eastwood) mysteriously appears out of the heat waves of the desert and rides into the lawless, sin-ridden town of Lago. After making a name for himself with a string of blazing gun battles, The Stranger is hired by the townspeople to provide protection from three ruthless gunmen just out of jail. The Stranger quickly proceeds to paint the entire town bright red, rename it "Hell," and supply divine retribution in the fiery, pulse-pounding climax of this acclaimed western shoot-em-up.

Joe Kidd

Clint Eastwood stars as former bounty hunter turned hired gunslinger, Joe Kidd, who finds himself in the middle of a range war in rough and rugged New Mexico. Following an armed uprising by local Mexican revolutionaries who claim they've been cheated out of their land, Kidd is hired to quell the rebellion by a wealthy land baron (Robert Duvall) with interests in the disputed territory. But Kidd's and his employer's interests are soon at odds when he falls for a beautiful Hispanic rebel in this top-notch action-adventure from acclaimed veteran western director John Sturges.

It's coming in UK on August 4th. No word on US release as yet, but there's no doubt in my mind that it's happening. There's no way that box such as this will be exclusive to Europe.

I just saw Coogan's Bluff for the first time a month or two ago, thought it was a ton of fun. I wish I had been able to see it along with the Dirty Harry films when I went through those last year.

Cool announcement. Play Misty for Me is exciting. That packaging looks huge though. I'm in the process of putting up some shelving for my blus, so I'm a little sensitive to that. Regardless, thank you Universal!

Just decided to unload my Clint Eastwood: Western Icon DVD set because all three were on Blu-Ray, and I wondered if Universal would triple feature them. This would be even better as I could get rid of my other DVD set as well.

I do wish it were in a regular old plastic case with a nice matte / glossy highlight slip, though.

It will also be released in Germany (7th August).

Like "Joe Kidd" and " Two mules for sister Sara" the Europaens get those films first.
