Exclamation New to WiiU? Start here:

In this Thread, I will help new users get set up with their new WiiU Systems and the Online WebSites to get the most out of your new System.
This is a Work-In-Progress
I will be adding Pictures to go along with this as well, for easier navigation.

Ask any questions and I will add them to the FAQ that I will build in the 3 post.
**********************

The WiiU is tied by one Main Account to a few separate WebSite to maximize enjoyment and promotions.
They are:
- Nintendo eShop
- MiiVerse
- Nintendo Deluxe Digital Promotion
- Club Nintendo
**********************
Nintendo eShop:
You can only Purchase and Download Content from the Application on the WiiU, but you can always check to see the latest Sales and Offers here:
http://www.nintendo.com/eshop/offers
Nintendo will soon be offering a way to purchase Content directly from the Internet, but they haven't set a date for that Service to be available.
**********************
MiiVerse:
MiiVerse is Nintendo's own "Social Media" Site.
It is accessible from the WiiU and from the Internet.
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/
It lets you Post Messages to other people in "Communities"
Communities are split up by either:
- Game (like Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Zelda: The Minish Cap)
- Game Series (like The Legend of Zelda)
- Application (like TVii or YouTube)
- Event (like E3)
**********************
Nintendo Deluxe Digital Promotion:
Nintendo Deluxe Digital Promotion is ONLY available with any version of the Deluxe WiiU
https://p.nintendo.net/deluxe/login.do
When you Purchase or Download a game from the Nintendo eShop (WiiU only) you get points.
Once you get 500 NDDP Points, you get a $5.00 eShop Credit.
A $59.99 game on the eShop will give you 599 NDDP Points
You will receive a code in your account. Take the code and enter it into the WiiU eShop (top button on the eShop where it says to add funds)
**********************
Club Nintendo:
https://club.nintendo.com/

When you register a game or a System, you earn Coins.
Coins let you redeem Virtual Console Games, or other Prizes.
If you earn 300 Coins per Fiscal Yeas (ending in June I believe) You attain Gold Member Status.
If you earn 600 Coins per Fiscal Year (ending in June I believe) You earn Platinum Status.

Gold Member Status earns you a Special Reward announced around the end of June.
Platinum Member Status earns you a choice between two different Special Rewards announced around the end of June.

**********************
**********************
**********************
Also, You don't actually need your TV to play if one of you wants to play and the other wants to watch TV/Movies.

Being and Playing Online is ALWAYS free!
But, the games do cost to purchase, obviously.

Make sure you get a Black System as it has a bit more Hard Drive Storage.
When you do get it. Before you go online you need to make a Nintendo Network ID.
After that go here:
https://p.nintendo.net/deluxe/login.do
Register your ID there and when you buy games through the eShop, you will get points for every purchase.
You then get $5.oo when you get enough points to use back in the eShop.
That purchase then adds more points back to the program. It's actually quite amazing!

I heard there is suppose to be an extra capacity battery you can buy from Nintendo? I could not find it last time I searched and it is not sold in store right? The regular battery capacity of the unit is not all the great and I dont want to charge it after each play, I believe that is not recommended for Lithium ion batteries am i right? You want to mostly charge it at 20% capacity left.

I haven't had to install any physical disc games on the Wii U yet. Congrats on your purchase decision too. The Wii U is a great console with some fantastic games.

Nope. There is no installing of games. Some may on occasion have an update patch, and some games to have dlc. But there are no big installs like the PS3 or (especially) the PS4.

Been playing smash bros for awhile now and my question is I've been using the GameCube style controller and I was wondering is there a way to turn off the gamepad so it won't lose charge when I'm playing smash bros ?

You can turn off the screen by pressing the home button on a controller that has one, controller options, turn off display. But of a pain but you have to remember it's still on and using power. It's only the screen that's off.

My son has been wanting a wii u for a long while now. I just got him the mario kart bundle for Christmas. I was looking over his set up and was wondering if it was possible to configure the audio and video separate? Like with the ps3 i can use hdmi for video and audio comes through the analog cables. Can i do this with the wii u?
