Fairly weak year for film. Beyond a few really good ones, there wasn't much that I could call favorites.

My favorites of the year:
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
The Blues Brothers
Airplane
The Shining

There were some other okay films, but nothing that impressed me much

I think Raging Bull and Elephant Man were more than Ok movies that didn't even make your list, but to each his/her own

I'd rather remember the good ones, but The Blue Lagoon would probably be there

I really wanted to like Popeye. And it seems like it should have been a winner. What could go wrong with a big-budget adaptation done by a top director (Altman) and starring Robin Williams? Well, it has a few good moments, but basically it's painful. I tried to watch it again recently for the first time since 1980, and it was worse than I thought it would be. Again, there are some neat moments, and some good productions design, but....?

Raise the Titanic
The whole idea is absurd. What a turd of a movie.

Here's one that'll get me some hate: The Blues Brothers. Has some great moments ("Are you policemen? No Ma'am. We're musicians."), but basically it's a great big, expensive, not very funny mess imho. Belushi did better. I think Continental Divide, his last movie, is better than this one.

Oh God, book II, Smokey and the Bandit II, Eastwood and Monkey book II. Yuck. Just saw snatches of these on tv, but....

When Time Ran Out is an all-star disaster of a movie, with William Holdman and Paul Newman. Total dreck.

Heaven's Gate was one of my favorites, sort-of, but it's also an indulgent mess sometimes, and just goes on and on. If you think of it like a miniseries, it's actually something quite impressive at times. Some beautiful camera work, great production design, important themes, shards of brilliance everywhere, but.....even as a fan I agree that it doesn't quite come together. And you really have to have a lot of patience. The blu-ray of this one has really good PQ.
