Holy fu*king sh!t! That's what I'm talking about!

Who is releasing it?

Edit: I see it's a company called TC Entertainment. Needles to say, I'm hoping for a stellar PQ/AQ presentation. Such a great movie.

The specs listed on TC Entertainment website are English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1ch, Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2ch, and Japanese subtitles.

Default Not good!!

For those of you that waited up to a month for my copy to arrive from Japan, and hurriedly ripped off the packaging and popped it in your player you may already know what I'm about to write next...

This is far from Blu-ray!! As a BD connoisseur, some releases surpass expectation while other merely suffice. And let's not forget how distinctly different 1080p is to it's predecessor DVD. And even now and again I get despondent when a film looks grimy in 1080p. Then I think back ten years. No complaints.

This film is 1080i and there in lies the drama here. To my horror when the first scene fades up to the snowy landscape of Upstate NY, I realized that this was nothing more than a DVD copy up-scaled. And badly. The credits aren't popping out of the screen in vibrant red, nothing looks good on this issue. A lazy man's idea of a blu-ray and for the Japanese, this is a poor effort indeed.

I'm sure there will be an official release in the States or Europe in time to come but for the time being avoid this like the plague. Your DVD edition is exactly the same.

The DTS-HD mono soundtrack is marginally better, but no mastering of any kind can be identified.

After all the wait, a very poor standard release not even worthy of the blu-ray tag. Rating: 2/10

Default Glad I Read This Thread First!

Very glad I read this thread before pulling the trigger on one from Amazon Japan. Extremely disappointing that it's a badly warmed over DVD transfer upscaled to 1080i on a Blu-ray. Off to find a good DVD of this now.

I wasn't all that surprised to find the Japanese Blu-ray but no other releases. It's an older one considered a "cult" film in the horror genre which means a low volume niche market which would be further narrowed with a Blu-ray release (DVD medium is assuredly not dead yet; look at local B&M store racks). The "Haunted House" horror sub-genre is more popular in Japan and Korea than in the USA, which thrives on the graphic copious blood and gore slasher, zombie and vampire vs werewolf movies.

For a US release, this movie would be a candidate the distributors that deal with limited quantities such as Twilight Time, or maybe Criterion, if they can obtain USA distribution rights. Hoping that it eventually finds its way into one of those distributors.

FWIW I've bought a number of films from Amazon Japan as they are not on Blu-ray anywhere else with some very good acquisitions if you're not needed much in the extra feature arena. One of them is "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" which I acquired some months ago and is now about to be released by Twilight Time. It can be a good source along with Amazon UK for older films that were produced in the US or UK that US distributors have ignored.

John

This Blu-Ray is being re-released in Japan now. Could it be that it's from a new source?

judging from the specs and extras, this is the same.
also, if you translate the title in the new release it says:

amazon.co.jp Limit Changeling (with a post card)
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%80%90Amazon-co-jp%E9%99%90%E5%AE%9A%E3%80%91%E3%83%81%E3%82%A7%E3 %83%B3%E3%82%B8%E3%83%AA%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B0-%E3%83%9D%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC%E3%8 3%89%E4%BB%98-Blu-ray-%E3%82%B8%E3%83%A7%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8%E3%83%BBC%E3% 83%BB%E3%82%B9%E3%82%B3%E3%83%83%E3%83%88/dp/B01BXYGALO

so, i guess it's just a limited edition with a postcard!

A real shame that scream factory or arrow dont pick this title up and give it the treatment it deserves, a superb film that needs a blu ray release

In the UK I believe this is held by Studio Canal, whilst in the US I think it's HBO, so effectively Warner. Neither of those facts leads me to hold out much hope of a third party being allowed to pick it up, and not a great deal more hope of it being released by the current rights holders.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong on that, though.

Until June 30?? Or do you mean ON June 30? The way you say it, it sounds like it is already OOP, then will come back in print on June 30.
