This needs to happen. Maybe even a Criterion collection version.

High on my wishlist, this one.

But cue the arguments over whether the wires should be scrubbed on the alien ships or not. Caused a fair bit of kerfuffle around the deluxe DVD release; who knows what it will be like when we can see the wires in HD!

That's a terrific point.. to show the wires which keeps the film in its original state or remove them to make the film look more realistic (at least for 1953)
Id LOVE for this film to get a blu ray release !

Dammit, move this to wish lists!

I saw this in new posts and almost had a heart attack.

FYI, I love the wires on the ships. It makes the movie all the more sweet.

I would buy it but only if it's a restored/remastered version. I would be okay with wire removal so long as the picture was still film-like.

Actually, it DOES NOT keep "the film in its original state".

The film "in its original state" depended upon the IMPERFECT registration of its three Technicolor plates to obscure the wires. It was not anticipated - nor INTENDED - that 3-strip registration would ever be as exact as it is today.

So should not the same technological advances that exacerbated the problem be called upon to alleviate it?
