Blu-ray on HD-TV Sets?

I need some help.

I’m going to get a HD-TV (Philips 26PF5521D/10) just for digital TV at first but then for use with SKY-HD later on.

I’m interested in the idea of DVD-HD but I’ve just heard about Blu-ray. I didn’t even know it was coming.

What I need to know is will Blu-ray in whatever form (DVD, TV, ect…) work on an HD TV set?

I'd recommend an HDTV with HDMI inputs. As long as you have that you will be able to hook up a BD player to it and watch all Blu-ray discs that come out.

Yeah you can never have too many inputs, especially HDMI inputs. Ideally I'd need 4 of them (HD STB, HD DVR, BD, HD DVD). My current set only has one... buggers.

I'll third this one. I have two on my set and wish I had more. HD STB had to get kicked down to component due to lack of HDMI inputs.

Scott - You really need to read about the two competing HD disc technologies. They both are disc based, and look like CDs or DVDs and are the exact same size of CDs/DVDs. But, they hold a lot more data and deliver HD video. You will have HD disc players, just like your DVD or CD player except they are designed for the HD disc formats. Two competing, incompatible formats exist; HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

If you have a TV, of any type, these players will connect to them. But, if you get a HDTV and it has a DVI or HDMI input then you should be able to maximize the quality of output from these new players. I, personally, recommend you consider a HDTV that has an HDMI input on it.

On smaller TVs, under 40" or so, the jump in quality over DVD will not be as noticable as it will be on the larger displays. But, it will be noticable.

I live in the UK. Are HDMI inputs what we call AV or Scart inputs in the UK?

(The inputs with 16-pins, I think)

they are different but they are probably closest to a scart input.

No it's a separate kind of connector, though vaguely shaped like a mini-scart.
