I saw this last week when buying the Batman box set. According to the box specs (and I usually don't place faith in them that much) we've got the same discs as the UK and German releases. That means ours is a great deal with a 20% off voucher bringing it down to under $40, far less than the UK and DE releases. It's also significantly cheaper than the upcoming standard US release which only features it in 16:9, whilst ours retains the OAR.

I thought the US set had both 4:3 and 16:9? Must be something off here though.. the local version lists it as 9 discs, but the US set is 18!

How do you get the 20% off voucher?

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15516

There are several sets - the first seasons - and the ulimate (old and new) . The Oz set only gets the 16:9 version in the ULTIMATE SET (the ratio print is so small on each box set - will confirm tomorrow but this first season gets 4:3 - it's interesting to see Sony and Universal produce these packs - where is the Sony relationship coming from ??) Given these were on film - the 16:9 ratio would be worth checking out.

As for the 20% off voucher - this has been on for weeks - purchase a $50 (or more) gift card and get a 20% of voucher (til the end of Jan) - can only get up to $20 back on the voucher ($100 spend). Note voucher is only valid 1 day after purchase. Ends the 24 December. Instore use only.

Have a few vouchers awaiting any further Boxing Day sale (* yes they can be doubled-up on other deals)

^ Sony and Universal joined forces for distribution here about two years ago.

Yes and no. The cheaper "Remastered Collection" only has the 16:9 transfers:

With exchange rates and shipping it works out about twice as expensive as ours and only has the 16:9 transfers which are cropped.

The more expensive "Definitive Collection" has both:

It's close to 3 times as expensive as our release and the only way to get the OAR in the US.

Assuming the source for the 1.33:1 discs everywhere is the same, ours is most definitely the best way to get them at the moment.

Ahh ok, gotcha! I'll have to consider the AUS release then.. I did have the US version bookmarked, but you're right the price difference is huge!

2 Full size amaray cases inside of a carboard box which opens from the top or bottom. Battlestar Galactica contains 6 discs and Galactica 1980 contains 3 - There is nothing on the front of each disc (besides the disc number) that indicate what is on each disc.

Thanks for the photos. It's a shame there is no episode guide on the opposite side of the cover

The lack of even the most basic episode list is a massive oversight on both the UK and Australian editions. The only way to know what's on the discs is to load them up.
