Default PS3 game recommendation...

I am not a big gamer, but I loved Resistance. Can anyone recommend a game similar? I have heard Haze and the Orange Box will be good.

For me nothing really has been able to compare to Resistance. I love Warhawk and I do have Unreal Tournament III preorderd. But your best bets are going to be Haze and Killzone 2 when they come out. Just my 2cents.

Similar how?

If you mean first person shooters (fps), you have plenty to choose from. If you mean Alien vs humans, it gets limited a little. How important in Multiplayer to you?

Half Life 2 is one of the greatest fps's ever (orange box) So depending on how much EA screws up the port would be a good indication on whether or not its a purchase. I was going to buy it just becuase it will cost me similar to buy episode 2 and portal from steam (already have hl2. and ep1).

Area 51 looks cool. Its seems to be getting beat up though in reviews.

Similar as in fps. Multiplayer and online play is not important to me.

Avoid Orange Box for the PS3 it's terrible, I would go into it but there is already an entire post about why we should boycott that game. If you liked Resistance (and who doesnt) I would reccommend Unreal Tournament 3 as it has a story mode now and fantastic multiplayer, though shooter wise there a bunch of options Call of Duty 4, Rainbow 6 Vegas, Timeshift (a current fav of mine), The Darkness, and others though none of those in my opinion match Resistance. So basically I think you should wait for Unreal Tournament 3 as I think that will get you as close to what I think your looking for from a game.

I'll second Warhawk. It's not a FPS, but a shooter nonetheless. My brother is also big on FPSs and really liked resistance, but LOVES Warhawk now.

With the 10 bucks off at best buy coupon that ends today, I decided to no longer wait for the PS3 Orange Box, and grabbed a 360 copy instead. One review came out trashing the PS3 version, but two have since come saying that it isnt as bad as the first review would lead you too believe. A few hiccups here and there, but not enough to ruin the experience.

Read the IGN hands-on, it's far, FAR from terrible.

I have to recommend Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to anyone interested in shooters with high end production values. It's not a FPS but that shouldn't limit anyone.

Shin-Ra, from what you have seen so far, what do you think is the best FPS coming for the PS3?

Probably Killzone 2 but that's not out for quite a while. The Orange Box and Unreal Tournament III both deserve a look. Haze has been delayed to Q1 2008 so keep an eye on that one.

IGN is noted for giving a rosy picture of a game from the preview then the review comes and it gets slammed. I have heard very mixed views on the PS3 version so I am skeptical until I see more positve feedback, plus IGN like many big media giants can be bought so if EA knows it stinks but wants to avoid people knowing about it they can and will pay for it.

They've posted videos too, maybe they've gone out of their way to show parts that play smoothly or the framerate issues really aren't as intrusive as others would have you believe.

I'd recommend Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and GRAW2. They're not first person shooters, but those are some of my favorites. If we have the same tastes, you might like them, too. Motorstorm should also be on your list.

During the SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn eras, I'd normally spend about one hour per game per sitting. With these next-gen titles, I normally spend about 1 to 4 hours per game in one sitting.

But Uncharted is the only game that's made me go almost 5 to 6 hours per sitting. And I only stop because I've realized that I've played too long without realizing it. Otherwise, I'd keep on playing, but my conscience says, "this in not healthy. You've probably played for almost 8 hours. Stop...Stop...STOP...!!!!." It's really that engrossing. You should give it a chance, despite COD4 having a higher overall review score.

In fact, if I had to recommend only two games, I'd recommend Ratchet & Clank along with Uncharted. If you like the slow and stealthy sniper kind of game as I do, you might want to try GRAW2 in addition to Uncharted. You can run and gun in both GRAW2 and Uncharted if you want to, but it feels better to use the slower paced cover system. They feel methodical.

Avoid EA games. EA is an enemy until they become fair with the PS3.

not a big fan of FPS, so my recomendations are, Ratchet and clank and uncharted. I have not played assasins creed to much so I can't recommend it. Heavenly sword is good, but I would rent first.

If you like FPS, Unreal tournament, Killzone2 and legendary the box are suppposed to be real good. (But they aren't out yet.

i love my fps games. heck i broke 2 killzone disc because i played it too much. call of duty series is amazing. although they say that cod3 on ps3 isnt that great due to its frame rate. if you can just get the ps2 version, cause its mighty fine and affordable for the price if i may add. i dont really like the melee act they added on there tho, but its one small caveat i have with it.

resistance didnt fare well with me, since im just using a demo version... but it seems like a solid game so i heard...

to sum it up

COD4
COD3 for ps2
COD 2 (a must)
Killzone for ps2.
Resistance (as per other members)

not quite sure what the problem is with EA but im going to search threads here about it. dont worry. =P
