Default Samsung BD-F5700 vs Panasonic DMP-BD91

Hey All,

I am looking for a Blu-Ray player for my 7 year old daughter's bedroom, she currently has a DVD only player. Her TV is only 720P, obviously not 3D.

I definitely want one that has Wi-Fi built in so she can access BD Live! content from Disney movies..

Anyway, unless there is a compelling reason to not go with either of these two models, I have narrowed it down to either the Samsung BD-F5700 or the Panasonic DMP-BD91.

Can any one give input on either of these two player? or a compelling reason not to go with either of these two players?

Thanks!

I have a couple of old samsung players. Samsung has stopped supporting them with firmware update, which were slow to begin with. I would not recommend buying one of their players, as I don't plan on buying one from them ever again.

Good luck.

ALL manufacturers were/are slow with firmware updates..

Do any of them need firmware updates to play new movies at this point? I know it was a big deal years ago when the first Blu-ray players first came out, but I don't think any of the new ones have any issues playing all movies now, do they?

It varies by manufacturer and product life. If you are a manufacturer and market a cheap player, and you already sell its replacement, you tend to drop support of the previous product which is something Samsung has done in the past.

It might surprise you but yes as BD Java, BD+, BD copy protection schemes get revised you encounter playback or navigation issues with certain BD's. If the vendor doesn't issue FW updates, your hosed. The most common problem you might encounter is audio drop outs due to copy protection branching of file hierarchy on the media.

Those samsung players still don't play discs from certain manufacturers(usually fox). I couldn't play any Universal discs in them for over a year.

Does anyone know if YouTube works on the system? My hotel wifi sucks and I got it from goodwill late December last year. It was 9.00$ btw.
