Default I'M LOST!!! i need a gps

i'm in the market for a gps unit. but there are bloody many now its hard to decide. i'm going to look at some the next time i'm at frys or BBuy. but in store is not the same as driving with one. does anyone here have any tips for looking at them or personal experience with specific brands or models. a guy at work is giving me some gps thing for my pda but i'm not sure how well that will work. the members here have helped a lot in the past with tips on electronics. thank you all.

Go with Tom Tom or Garmin. Those are the two best and most popular brands. You'll have to do some of your own research as well though because there are just way to many different kinds of GPS units out there.

I recently bought a Tom Tom for my sister and she loves that thing. Here it is below:

Also remember, more expensive units aren't always better. And with GPS devices that statement is truer than ever.

I sold the Garmins and Tom Tom's at Best Buy for awhile, as well as the Magellans. The TT and Garmin's are pretty similar, I hated the Magellan's as they weren't as intuitive as the Garmin's/TT's, and they were a lot bulkier. We had more returns on the Magellan's as well. The Garmin Nuvi was my favorite one that we sold (this was early 06, so I'm sure they have had 2 or three models since then). The Alpine Blackbird is pretty nice as well, I didn't get to fiddle with it as much as I would have liked, but if I remember it has a built in FM modulator to send the voice commands through your radio.

I carpool with a group of new overenthusiastic Nuvi owners still getting over their honeymoon--
No, there's no particular reason for them to turn it on ontheir way to the grocery, they just like to use it.

(And like we're any better with our PS3's.)

i just got a garmin nuvi 350 for my birthday and i'm very, very pleased with it. very intuitive to use, big easy to understand screen, and the directions that it's taken us make a lot of sense (the directions to my parents' home, for example, has had a good 10-15 minutes shaved off a previously 1hr 15min drive).

can't comment on what the others are like, but i do like my nuvi 350.

I have the TOMTOM GO 910, very happy with it. Garmins are good also, just don't buy a cheap brand.

Get a Garmin at Best Buy or Circuit City. You can update them. My Sister has one and loves it. MICHELE
