Default PS3 outsells the Wii for the first time in Japan

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071130/...CPE1UUdpGSxLEF

I like the Wii, but the Wii selling well does not directly help the Blu cause... unless you count the chance that people might buy the Wii instead of the 360. anyways, the news is just getting better and better for blu... in Japan anyways. hopefully, we'll see these numbers here in the US soon.

I had a Wii but traded it in because I just wasn't using it.

The Wii will start to wear out its novelty pretty soon. Although I think its great console and has pretty good games, it won't last into the next few years because people need their fix of great HD graphics and sound which the Wii's weak processors cannot provide.

I don't really think the Wii is a threat to the PS3. They are quite different, and historically the game market has easily supported more than one platform.

That is impressive though. I hear that over here you can hardly get your hands on a Wii.

According to me, who is a student of economics, the graph of wii sales is going to shoot up till holiday 2008, but then the consumers will get bored of mario, and all other childish games nintendo comes out with. Like how can adult be entertained by zelda and other kiddy games. I know more than 5 people who sold their wii just because you cannot play nintendo games forever and you cannot play other genres like racing, fps etc. using the controller and nunchuk.

I have a Wii, and a PS3, I love my Wii. If you want to play arcade style games, there is a Wii remote add-on that lets you play with a controller style remote. It is actually pretty inexpensive so most people should be able to buy it.
Yes the Wii is selling out in USA so much that it is very very very hard to find.
It IS the console of the holiday shopping season. Sorry guys. Neither the PS3 or the 360 have sold nearly as well in USA.
But I still think the PS3 is a better system. Its just that right now we have people who are waiting for the format war to end, people who think you need HDTV to play the PS3, people who do not want to spend that much money, etc.. This hurts our sales, but luckily the biggest problem of price is being solved by lowering it so much. Sure people want it lower, but that is always true. For what it does, it is the best-priced console out there. But what it does is more than most people want or need, or think they need... yet.

Sony designed PS3 to be around for years to come. Remember that PS2 was still selling well in Japan before PS3 was released. It takes time to build up the sales numbers. Wii was on top because it was cheap at $250. PS3 will still be the next-gen console to have when Nintendo is designing their next console. In short, Sony had their eye on the long-term goal.

I am pretty sure that the novelty of the Wii and its main attraction is that its an entirely new demographic that has opened, sans typical "gamer". Your demand assumption better account for an increased market of 50% of the female population between 12-35 and then the baby boomer generation. If the Wii had an adult version of brain academy with Suduko and cross-word puzzles that also utilized fitness, geriatrics would be doing cartwheels. The attachment rate will suck, but the Wii console is going to continue to sell for quite some time. Even the "gamer" will just adopt two systems.

Instead of 200 milion 6th generation consoles being sold, there are probably going to be 300 million 7th generation consoles that will sell. In the end, this console war is only going to increase money for each of the three companies. More than ever developing markets are opening up.

The only loser in this console war are the traditional entertainment industries (movie, television, and music). People are switching to games.

Probably because EVERYONE probably has gotten a Wii by now. LOL! Those things sold ridiculously well. They are fun little machines though for the average consumer.
