Default The best of Asian Cinema 2014?

I'm looking for releases from the Asian cinema from last year. I haven't been keeping track of any films coming out from the Far East for some time. What are some of your favorites?

There have been some greats from South Korea over the years too.

I always try to keep myself up to date on Korean cinema. Certainly haven't seen everything, but overall from what I've seen it was a disappointing year. Summer blockbusters like The Admiral: Roaring Currents, No Tears for the Dead, and Kundo: Age of Rampant have all been stinkers in my opinion.

A Hard Day was pretty good though. Broken is another good one.

Other decent ones

I don't bother watching Asian films any more. The production values are horrible.

So very not true. You clearly are not watching the right ones.

I'll admit I don't watch a lot of Asian films but from the ones I've seen they can even surpass any modern Hollywood film in terms of production value. Just last night I watched the Korean film "I Saw the Devil" and the production value on that one was on point. Also very old ones like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero (Jet Li one). Come on Megalith!

Seriously? Go watch Michael Bay then.

Only one I've seen this year is The Raid 2, but it was great.

I can see where you are coming from. Sometimes films get made in studios with minimal budgets.

I also know of many films that are fantastic with superb production values. Red Cliff is one prime example.

John Woo is coming out with another two part epic called The Crossing. Actually part 1 already premiered in China last month, and I think part 2 in April. I've only read a couple reviews on part 1 and they didn't sound great, but I'm optimistic.

I have to keep this on the radar. Maybe we will get part 2 in cinemas over here.

Thanks Jasonic!

My Way - nicely made and pretty epic. It's like a mix of Saving Private Ryan and Legends of the Fall.

Quick - ridiculous but fun

These are not from 2014. But I believe 2011 and 2012.
