I'll have to disagree with you there. The sequel was great, and I actually liked it better than the original. Both are awesome movies. But the first one is done in all flashbacks, in the sequel we actually get to see it play out through Eddie's perspective ( as his alter ego, Joe West) Quote:

I preordered this from Shout along with Breakin' and Class of 1984 a few days ago.
Someone mentioned "Streets of Fire" .. I still have an old HD-DVD player hooked up almost to just watch that movie. The colors are amazing and the sound is incredible. Might watch it tonight now. ![]() |

When I saw the first film, I enjoyed the mystery and wondering if he was really alive towards the end. Then, once we saw who
[Show spoiler] serves as a major spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen part one yet. I wish these two movies were on separate disks. Still, the first film looks GREAT on this new blu and it sounds even better than it looks. I'm happy to finally have this. |

If the UK or German version are any indication of what we will be getting with the eventual US release (this is Universal after all), it just means they are going to use the exact same master they used for the HD-DVD presentation, slap it on Blu-Ray and call it a day.
The only hope we have is a smaller label like Shout for example, willing to take a risk and producing a new master for the film. Considering this film won't have a HUGE fan base, I don't see this happening.... but one can dream. |

I saw the sequel first as a kid, and to this day I like it more than the first...but both are very good movies. The structure of the second is mostly straightforward narrative, whereas the first used several flashbacks for the bulk of its running time. There's also less of a mystery in the second one, but more of a personal struggle over the issue of choice vs. destiny.
