United Kingdom Birdman

Birdman

A washed-up actor who once played an iconic superhero must overcome his ego and family trouble as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory.

Excellent film which has some very important things to say about the film industry and film criticism. Easily my favourite film of 2014 and the best cinema experience I have had in a long time.

Agreed. Was looking forward to it all year and thought it would be great, but not best-film-of-the-year-great.

Glad to say I was pleasantly surprised, and it was! Overtook Under the Skin, Gone Girl and Boyhood for me, and was my favourite film of 2014.

Day one purchase for me, most likely. Let's hope it gets at least a couple of extras.

Easily a day one buy, the film is fantastic regardless of whatever minor problems I have and I'm already eagerly planning on rewatching it before it heads out of cinemas.

Extended cinema run? Same thing happened with Boyhood (which only recently came out on Blu-ray but came out last summer in cinemas).

I just hope they don't deliver a lousy lack of extras in the end like they did with Boyhood -no special edition or exclusive, or even a slipcover?

To be honest though that was Universal, and Birdman is Fox who are a little better. We already know there will be an HMV exclusive with a slipcover and art cards, so there's at least one version separate from the standard edition.

It's just a case it wasn't released until January, standard release window really despite the extended cinema run.

That's true actually, for some reason I thought it was a longer gap than usual. Actually it kinda is, considering it came out on January 1st (and I had a limited run the week before that...I actually saw it on December 28th).

They both have identical transfers. Only the audio and subtitle options differ.
