Twentieth Century Fox proudly honors the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 box office smash and five-time Academy Award®-winning The Sound of Music with an unprecedented year-long, company-wide celebration highlighted by theatrical and home entertainment releases, and a slate of cross-company and promotional partnerships that will bring one of the world’s most ‘favorite things’ to millions around the globe. The unparalleled golden anniversary of the film’s premiere will launch March 2 in the United Kingdom and March 10 in the United States with the release of the 5-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition 50th Anniversary Blu-ray™/DVD/Digital HD. Beautifully restored, the 5-disc 50th Anniversary Blu-ray features over 13 hours of bonus content highlighted by the all-new documentary “The Sound of a City: Julie Andrews Returns to Salzburg,” detailing Andrews' recent return to the magical city where she filmed her iconic role, Maria, half a century ago!

Based on the UK listing, the only new addition appears to be a new 1-hour documentary:
Quote:
Includes an all-new hour-long documentary detailing Julie Andrews’ return visit to Salzburg where she filmed her iconic role as Maria half a century ago!
Artwork will probably be the same too:

Looks like it's getting a regular release, too.

So, the only difference between this one and the 45th Anniversary is an brand new hour long extra? The transfer is exactly the same?

The existing Blu-Ray is absolutely incredible; I wouldn't change anything except some of the navigation. I'll probably skip this release, and watch the new documentary when someone places it online.

Looks like UK is getting a Steelie, but Region B .... Never got around to buying this on Blu-ray yet, so I guess I'll' be grabbing the 50th. Just need to find out the difference between the Ultimate and Standard editions.

I put my copy of the 45th on ebay two weeks ago and got fifty-five clams out of it. I will be picking up this new version.

You'd think there would be a projected timeframe tho. 4k players are due out later this year!

The players are "due" out, but no player has been officially revealed, let alone an actual release date. The first wave of releases will probably be announced pretty much at the same time as the players IMO. Some studios might take months or weeks after to get out their press releases. My guess is even if players make a 2015 launch, the titles available will be slim pickings until 2016.

Not to get too far off track but I wonder if the rumored Star Wars release this fall will be in 4K

Given that the movie won't be released in theaters until December with a blu-ray release sometime in Spring of 2016, I think it is very likely to be one of the first blockbusters released in 4K blu-ray (hopefully a combo pack with 1080p blu-ray as well).

I was referring to the rumored release of the original trilogy in 4k

It looks like Walmart will have an exclusive Digibook for the 50th Anniversary release of The Sound of Music. No pic up yet, but it's quite cheap at $14.96

WM added a pic. Says it comes with a 40 page book. It does say Digibook in the title, but I think it's possible it might be something separate.

You also forgot to mention they're releasing a box set like they did for the 45th anniversary that comes with collectable items and the cd soundtrack.
