United Kingdom What We Do In The Shadows (Taika Waititi, 2014) - April 13th 2015 [Metrodome]

Just noticed this listing for Taika Waititi's vampire comedy WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS and glad to see it's getting a blu-ray release in the UK!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-We-Do-S.../dp/B00SHJLVWM

Definitely one of the funniest films I saw last year. Not everyone's cup of tea evidently (I read a few sniffy reviews), but should satisfy a lot of comedy fans. Especially those familiar with Flight Of The Conchords, Rhys Darby, or Waititi's previous films (Boy, Eagle vs Shark). I found it to have a pretty witty and surprisingly balanced script. Obviously owes a lot to Christopher Guest and to a lesser extent John Landis.

Initial release date seems to be April 13th but that could change. No proper artwork now - as with many Metrodome releases just a makeshift DVD placeholder poster for the time being (will post it nearer the time if necessary).

Fully agree with it being the funniest film of last year - saw it at a sold out screening (even though it was a Monday afternoon screening - the only showing available for our city) and the crowd just lapped it up, really great atmosphere. Absolutely hilarious film, can't wait to see the bonus features considering the talent behind it (and the amount of extra footage that was supposedly shot)

How did this one pass my radar unnoticed? Looks great, and might blind buy!

There's an Aussie release available already, but it's completely bare bones, this film is crying out for some special features.

Edit: Just discovered there's a 3 disc special edition coming out in a couple of months.

Would love to see a slightly extended cut with more of the elder vampire Peter, ooh that’s a scary name. I think one difference between the releases are some are very slightly cropped to 1:78 from 1:85

I wonder if there's any chance that the US TV series will ever make it to disc. I see on Wikipedia that Disney is the distributor, so probably not.

I think the first season has a US DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, although I doubt they’ll do the later seasons considering Disney’s aversion to physical media and the sporadic nature of FX series on disc. In the UK it was broadcast on the BBC as they have a distribution deal with FX although I think that’s expiring soon with series moving over to Star.

And it is a DVDr set into the bargain.

Yes, I watched them on the iPlayer. It does still say "available for over a year" on the episodes on iPlayer. I'd obviously much rather have physical copies rather than it being pot luck if it happens to be available on a streaming service I'm subscribing to when I fancy watching them again. Gosh, I sure find this "brave new world" of streaming deeply irritating.
