I think we need a thread where we can talk about movies in general. This is the only active forum left on line. Zulm.net is kind of dead. So here is some info and some questions:
1. Leonard Maltin’s annual movie guide won’t be published any more. Year 2015th edition (published Sept. 2014) will be the last one. 2. Is there any official list of all the Indian movies released so far available anywhere? 3. Has the Filmfare (or its parent company) released the video of Awards Presentation from 1950s to 1970s? 4. There is a movie in which Salman Khan dreams about winning a Filmfare award. A black and white footage was used and his image was superimposed. Does anyone know the name of the movie? |

Now I have a question i never found explanation for, let me know if any one knows this mystery
In the ending scene of devdas, after Devdas dies and gate is closed, there is supposed to be a poetic one line voice over narration from devdas. Now i saw this voiceover long ago only on an official VCD (when DVDs didnt exist). However in all DVDs released later, i never found this voiceover it was just music. Now when i searched youtube today, I found both versions of the scene. Does anyone know why two different versions were made and why the better format (dvd) was deprived of it? I did not see the film in cinemas so i dont know which one is theatrical representation. Without voiceover With voiceover |

I remember when the film released, they did make mention to two versions of the film. I have the DVD's that released here and in India, and i did pick up a few differences.
- In the Indian version, some scenes were extended, and some scenes included that didnt appear in the outside India release. These include the scenes where Chandamukhi and Dharmdas are speaking about Devdas's illness and the scene where Sumitra visits Devdas's father while he is ill, after the whole fiasco. - The voiceover is an interesting one, i cannot remember, will have to look at the DVD's when i get home whether it appears on both. Will confirm the above. |

I guess the one on the top is the french cut (its from the French Diaphana edition) perhaps that's the reason for this difference. The French cut had some more differences, I'm not sure of them.
One I am aware of :- The scene which shows Paro returning to her house and the family receives the news of Devdas' ailing dad. |

Just read about the list of National Award Winners for last year and thought it was an April Fools' Day joke released too early:
http://www.thehindu.com/entertainmen...=entertainment Bahubali best picture - it's not even a complete film for fcuck's sake, and even at that just an empty pot-boiler notable for its epic scale. What is the difference between this BB and the other BB that was awarded best popular film? Both are aiming for the same - masses pandering time-pass entertainment. ![]() Amitabh Bachchan best actor for Piku - I know it's all a matter of preference, but most critics last year were way more enthusiastic about Nawauddin's brilliant performance in Badlapur. Tanvi Azmi best supporting actress for Bajirao Mastani - going by her performance, Lalita Pawar should have won a national award for every film in which she played the tyrant mother-in-law / stepmother. Offhand, Pratima Kazmi, who was Nawaz's mum in Badlapur totally owned this performance. In that same film Huma Qureshi as the girlfriend was excellent. Konkona Sen in Talvar was strong, as was Richa Chadha in Masaan. Frak, just about anyone you could think of gave a more layered and subtle performance than the winner. Thoo! No mention in any category for Titli, which was one of the hardest-hitting dramas of last year. Great script, great performances (Ranvir Sheorey!), great direction (Kanu behl). Looks like YRF were not interested in sucking up to the jury for this film, the way they did for Dum Laga ke Haisha. Also disturbed that almost all major categories have gone to Hindi films (or at least films with Hindi versions), seems to show a bias of the jury. I need to see Visaranai, is there any DVD release of it (hopefully not censored to death)? Last edited by ravenus; 03-28-2016 at 11:28 AM. |

I have seen both the uncut/silent version and the tentkotta version. They are not the same. Tentkotta has the theatrical cut. Read that Vetrimaran is planning an online only release of the festival version soon though.

I read that that the Indian version of Visaranai is slightly different from the cut shown at Cannes. I saw the Indian version, and it's an incredibly powerful film.

^Several films screened at Cannes are a rougher cut so they can meet the submission deadlines, after that they are edited again for general release. Titli also had a longer cut at Cannes...as did 1978's Dawn of The Dead, which some people mistake to be the Director's Cut.
