United Kingdom Polytechnique (Denis Villeneuve)

Does anyone know whether Polytechnique (directed by Denis Villeneuve) was released on Blu-ray in the UK?

If not, can anyone hook me up with either an English or French (both were produced) Region B release? I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

Nah it wasn't...a shame really, I'd love to get hold of it. Perhaps as he gets more and more noticed we'll see a smaller label pick it up? Until then you'll likely have to import.

As I say, it's a shame. I'd really like to see it! Sounds similar to Gus Van Sant's Elephant. I assume you already have Trinity's release of Incendies, eOne's release of Prisoners, and Curzon Film World's recent release of Enemy?

I have, yes, I'm a huge fan of his work. Hopefully Curzon will release Polytechnique alone, or even better, as part of a Villeneuve director's collection with all of his other early work. I'd love to see his short films released outside of Canadian DVD as well.

I found his short Next Floor on Vimeo last year sometime - if you fancy watching it, click here

As for Polytechnique, I would love for someone to release it. However Curzon Film World haven't done any back catalogue titles to date - you'll notice all their releases tend to be new release films from English-language directors (mainly American, but a few Canadian/Irish/British to date). It seems Curzon have been started as the new release English-language sublabel for Artificial Eye now, who previously just released English-language films as AE titles. Perhaps they would pick up Polytechnique, but release it as an Artificial Eye title (seeing as it's in French and also an older title)?

If not, I could see someone like Soda considering a set like you said. Villeneuve is one of the most exciting directors to break into the US, and I can't wait for Sicario...

I still think this is Villeneuve's best film by far and among my favourites of the last couple of decades. Got the Canadian Blu-ray which features both the French and the English version.

Is there a region free Canadian Blu-ray? All of the releases I can see are either A locked or B/C untested. Thanks for replying.

Thanks a lot for that Vimeo link, I'll have to watch that later. As for AE, I've just ordered quite a few more Palme D'Or winners from their label - I've never had a bad release from them as yet. Hopefully they will pick up Polytechnique.

You mentioned Gus Van Sant's Elephant earlier, I found a UK release for that film yesterday. The strange part is I can only find used copies on Amazon (but not on ebay), or one new copy for £99. It must have been a very limited release.

It's been OOP for at least a couple of years (I think). I managed to get a used copy on eBay at some point. There's a cool HMV exclusive with a yellow sleeve too which I wanted to try and get but gave up in the end. You might be able to get Elephant for a couple of quid like I did (it's not exactly a sought-after film). So yeah, very unlikely to find a brand new copy I'm afraid! But worth picking up.

It's on a bonus disc in the German mediabook edition of Villeneuve's Enemy:https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Enemy-Blu-ray/101243/

B locked, French and German DTSHD-MA 5.1, optional German subtitles.

I also saw that, but the cover says "2 Blu-ray, 1 DVD" so I'm wondering if Polytechnique would be the DVD or not. I suppose there's no way of telling. Plus there's no English subtitles on Polytechnique, which makes it impossible for me to watch as I don't speak German well enough to translate a film.

I have that mediabook. Polytechnique is on Blu (how else would it feature lossless audio?). AFAIK it's the only region B release, didn't find a single trace of an English or French release you were hinting at.
