United Kingdom Mississippi Burning (1988) Second Sight

Mississippi Burning Blu-ray

Quote:
Based on one of the most notorious race-related murder cases in US history, Alan Parker's (The Commitments, Angel Heart), multi-award winning Mississippi Burning gets its first ever UK Blu-ray release in September courtesy of Second Sight.

When three civil rights activists go missing deep in Ku Klux Klan territory, the FBI are called in to investigate. Agents Ward (Willem Dafoe – Platoon) and Anderson (Gene Hackman – The French Connection) are poles apart in their approach, one methodical and by-the-book, the other more cynical with age and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Facing an uncooperative local police force and a community too afraid to talk, their investigation sparks repercussions as they edge even closer to the truth.

Amongst its many accolades, Mississippi Burning won an Oscar and was nominated for a further six Academy Awards, along with three BAFTA wins and Gene Hackman garnered the best actor award at Berlin International Film Festival. The film also features notable performances from Frances McDormand (Fargo), Brad Dourif (Wise Blood), R. Lee Ermey (Full Metal Jacket) and Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead).

Mississippi Burning will be released for the first time on UK Blu-ray on 14th September 2015 by Second Sight at the RRP of £19.99.

Special features will include:

Through the Storm – an interview with director Alan Parker

Remembering Mississippi Burning – an interview with actor Willem Dafoe

Under Seige – an interview with writer Chris Gerolma

Audio commentary with Alan Parker
[Show spoiler]Second Sight just hinted at a Mississippi Burning release on their Facebook page.

Great film.

Great news. I think with Arrow now focusing on dual territory releases, and 88 moving forward with their slasher and Italian ranges, there is a great big gap to fill for a company like Second Sight to release a lot of the more well known Hollywood catalogue titles coming from Twilight Time and Kino across the pond.

This is terrific news, but the Parker film I really want is Birdy.

Probably to save buying the Twilight Time version, kudos to Second Sight.

Fantastic 'news', if it's true, but...

...I've just posted this on their FB page, they need to both confirm it's coming and when.

I'd rather support a British company and (obviously) pay less, but I've seen online 'hints' like this not come to fruition in the past, and I've seen the titles finally appear after many moons and long delays.

SS need to confirm it's coming and tell us when - this news best coming before the TT comes up for pre-order in around a month's time.

That aside, very good news indeed.

Excellent! Since Second Sight are releasing so many great 70's/80's titles I may have to start prioritising which to get...

As this has just dropped in price I'm considering a purchase but as I currently own the Twilight Time release can anyone chime in on the transfer of this vs the TT release.

Frustratingly there isn't one on Caps-A-Holic

It's the same master, so detail will be the same, but supposedly Second Sight did some cleanup so the print doesn't look as dirty. The TT one has a lot of dirt and specks. I bit on the price drop as well.

By "clean up" do you mean DNR & EE?

No, I mean dirt on the print that was scanned. You can't "clean up" DNR and EE, you just don't use it to begin with.

Sorry, should have made myself more clear. I meant had these been used to clean up the image.

Been added to the 3 for £20/5 for £30 at HMV, along with State of Grace and Colors. I already have two of them but may get Colors (with a couple of other titles). Bargains though! I wonder if they'll add any more Second Sight titles?
