USA The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014) - July 14, 2015

Quote:
Synopsis:

65 years after a series of brutal slayings terrorized the small town of Texarkana, the “Moonlight Murders” suddenly begin again.

While on a trip to Lovers’ Lane, 17-year-old Jami (Addison Timlin) watches as her date is brutally slain by a masked serial killer. Barely escaping with her life, she becomes obsessed with finding the man referred to as "The Phantom." As the body count climbs and the carnage comes closer, Jami delves deeper into the mystery, following clues that point her toward the killer’s true identity. Starring Anthony Anderson, Gary Cole, Edward Herrman, Joshua Leonard, Denis O’Hare, Travis Tope and Veronica Cartwright, The Town That Dreaded Sundown puts Texarkana back on the map for all the wrong reasons.

Hmm, I wonder why Fox passed on this one.

Probably because it's actually good and because they couldn't cast Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence in it

This movie is on Netflix and Amazon Prime and it is pretty good. It isn't as good as the original, but it has enough going for it to make for a good watch. I believe that the version on Netflix is cropped, as IMDB lists the AR as 2.35:1 and the Netflix version was 1.85:1. Other than a really stupid twist towards the end, I liked this movie.

3 out of 4 stars.

Finally! Loved this movie. Scream Factory tried to get it I guess this is why they couldn't. I wonder what if any special features it will have? Does Image usually do special features?

I almost thought they were going to wait until Halloween to release this. FINALLY a release date! I really liked this one and am looking forward to seeing it again.

Didn't even realize this was on Netflix. Just added it to my que, that way I'll know if I'm jumping on this release in July.

The ending left me cold, but everything else I loved enough to want this in my collection.

I've heard nothing but good things about this film.... to the point where I'd almost question if it isn't deserving of the title of "One of the best remakes ever" as it seems to have completely avoided all of the hate/disdain that usually follows a remake. I'm excited to finally check it out.

Same here, which is quite interesting to me, since the trailer really didn't sell me on the movie...

The word of mouth means I'll probably give it a rental, at least...

That's because it's not a remake

Sequel.

Personally, I loved the score. Hope there's a soundtrack released around the same time.

Need to get this and the original on Blu. Loved them both. They don't make slashers like this anymore.

Is the Blu-ray being exclusive to Best Buy for now the reason that not even Red Box has it? I checked four different Red Boxes around me yesterday and all any of them had was the DVD version.

Yes. The Blu Ray is exclusive only to Best Buy until September.

I’d like both, 1976 and 2014, in 4K. The 2014 also needs some extras.

I could almost see them coming as a double-feature, because of how small-time they were. Which is fine, but I'm really not that big on the original at all. But hey, I still support the fans of it getting what they want, too.

Have got the German steelbook release of the Town That Dreaded Sundown remake. Not seen it yet, but it's likely going to be among my 'Halloween Horror Month' watchlist. Would like to see it get a combo pack release with some new interview extras by Shout as part of their Scream Factory line.
