Default What Sort of BD Collector Are You?

Speaking honestly and transparently, of course.

Personally, I'd say I'm probably a casual collector to a fault. If I really like a film I would be open to buying multiple versions for something as simple as a slip but I'm really not all that sentimental about my collection.

I take more gambles on my films than I purchase films I know I love and will watch for years to come - although you could argue to enjoy labels like Arrow, 88 Films and Blue Underground that you have to be that way - and I rarely bother updating my collection on here because I never really hold onto a title for long.

Even if I've absolutely adored a movie, if it isn't the kind of thing I would dust off to show off to all my friends then I probably wouldn't bother to hold onto it. In an average month I'm probably selling off about 10 - 20 films and buying in just as many as I take out.

I'm not sure I really understand the question. I collect the stuff I give a crap about. I'm not at all interested in having thousands of Blus that correlate all of film history or all decades or all genres; I want the stuff that I love and will watch again and again. 85 percent of my collection is from the 70s, 80s and 90s (with the 80s being the lion's share) as that's the stuff that really tends to float my boat and I'm very passionate about. That said, I'm not completely dismissive of the present; I still follow Arnie, I follow Emma W, and any genuinely great left-field surprises like John Wick or Kingsman are more than welcome on my shelf.
I don't know whether that makes me a "serious" collector but I'm certainly very passionate about what I love.

Steelbooks are the only thing I really care about.

I don't do the overseas stuff anymore. Waste of money in my opinion.

I'm 90% digital now, but if it's a movie I'm interested in and it's in Steelbook form I'll pick it up blind. Interstellar being the most recent example (which I was very happy with).

I'm far from a collector. Early adopter of Blu, yes, I was buying them for full price after buying a PS3 on launch. Traded most back in.

That's about right for me as well.

When I started buying Blu-rays, I only intended to upgrade the "essential favorites" from my DVD collection, namely the James Bond movies, the classic film noir movies, my favorite Criterion Collection films, and such.

Lately, though, I've had a lot of fun tripping on nostalgia by purchasing 1970s and 1980s movies from the likes of Scream Factory and Scorpion Releasing.

Since I transferred to a new work office location in November and since I've ramped up my running hobby, I have less time to watch movies during the average week, but my still-unwatched Blu-ray list keeps growing. I plan to put on the brakes during the next couple of months simply for reasons of storage space and to catch up on unwatched discs, but we all know how plans can go.

I'm a collector of what I like and what I feel has re-watch value for me. I'm a moderate buyer and very selective. I can sometimes go a month or two -- or three -- without even buying any. I almost never blind-buy (only three exceptions so far, because I had no other choice) and instead only buy movies that I've seen, and thus know I already like. I'm not at all interested in trying to replace my entire DVD collection, but I will upgrade certain titles on a case by case basis. Like The Great Owl said, those "essential" titles.

I collect the best combo packs for my Blu-rays, minus store exclusive and steelbooks unless they are the only way to own the film. If anything comes with a slipcover, I will tend to search everywhere for the Blu-ray that comes with the slipcover. I also tend to buy just single releases unless the collection of a film series comes with bonus discs only available in the box set.

Since you don't have categories I guess I will call myself a movie (or content) collector. I don't care about steels or slips or anything like that (not that I have something against them, just don't care). If I am interested in watching a film I buy it, if a new better transfer comes out and I am interested in watching it I buy it. And I never get rid of what I buy

I would consider myself more of an obsessive collector of boutique labels and occasional new releases. I collect everything Criterion in Blu-Ray and am only missing 8 from completion. Aside from that I look for decent prices of movies I love or special editions that really bring something new to a favorite label.

very "choosey" must like the film, generally have a fondness for sci-fi adventure, very rarely blind by and I certainly can not hoard blu-rays, limited budget, space or interest. I have spent around 3 grand on titles though. VHS i grabbed anything I could, dvd a little less, 4k well, yet to start but hopefully you've seen the trend.

actually, lets say Blu doesn't actually reflect my tastes fully. I don't shop on the net, only buy locally..it's killin me.

How come you don't shop on the net?
