Default Please help me design my Home Theater Room

Ok guys, so I am buying a new house and one of the downstairs rooms has the space for a cinema room.

I don't have much to spend, but would like to convert this room as economically as possible. That said, it should not look cheap!

Measurements of room are:
18'9" x 14'10" (5.71m x 4.51m)

Here's a plan and photo of the room.

My main issue is how the screen should work in relation to the french doors on the back wall.

I would prefer the screen to come down in front of the french doors, but am open to suggestion (perhaps having some curtains covering the french doors and then the screen coming down in front of it).

I haven't figured out where the centre speaker would go if I still wanted to have access to the french doors. Putting the screen on the opposite wall is an idea, but I preferred to enter the room and see the screen on the further wall (where the french doors are).

Your help would be grateful appreciated.

IMO, having the projection screen in front of the french doors would be ugly, unless you mounted the screen in the ceiling, which would not be cheap. The center speaker would further complicate matters because you'd have to either similarly mount the center channel speaker on an electronic track similar to the projector's, constantly move it into place when using the screen, or leave it in front of the doorway for someone to trip over. I suppose you could reveal it behind the screen, but that would require a sound transparent screen, which is again not cheap, and you'd still have to mount it on an electronic track to hide when not in use.

Setting up on the wall opposite the french doors, is the practical thing to do. You can get a fixed screen instead of an electric one, which will save money, and you won't have to worry about the placement of front speakers(satellites could prove tricky depending upon the location of furniture and pathways). Your projector could be either ceiling mounted above the seating area, or wall mounted above/outside the alcove for the french doors. There appears to be another alcove by the fireplace. Depending upon depth, that could be an interesting place to stow away some of the electronics, with the wiring concealed up the wall to the attic above(?).

Could be a nice setup once completed.

Take more pictures of the actual room if u can. Makes it easier to see where best options are.

Thanks for the advices, here's a pic of the opposite wall.

With the unit by the french door, I was thinking of making a unit in which to incorporate an electric screen. Within that, at the top, I would put the centre unit, and then side speakers, keeping everything otherwise neatly hidden.

If I use the main wall on the opposite side, please take a look at the picture and please advise how to make the unit look aesthetically pleasing.

I've attached one pic which may work i guess.

The first picture's wall is the one i would use. With the fireplace to the side, the room will be cozy and make an excellent theater room.

Can that door be made to open to the outside of the room, instead of into the room?

That would give you a little more space.

Otherwise, i think your idea of building everything into a cabinet of sorts is a good one. What is your MLP distance from screen to sitting?
