Default Mortdecai must become a cult classic!

I don't know why Johnny Depp's new movie Mortdecai has received so much negative critisism. I loved the movie! It was so wonderfully exaggerated and so over the top bad that it actually became really good! And Depp's performance is spot on perfect.

I would be surprised if this doesn't become a cult classic.

This movie will be as memorable as Daddy Day Care - forgettable meh.

Every single movie is loved by someone. It doesnt mean it will become a cult classic.

The problem here is that cult classics are generally enjoyable.

This movie is thoroughly enjoyable, me and my friends loved it! I just don't think everyone has the right mindset or the right kind of humor to appreciate such an over the top masterpiece such as this

It was almost as good as The Lone Ranger.

This.

Mortdecai is too horrible to be a cult classic. Cult films are typically really good films that, for various reasons, just didn't do well at the theater.

Usually a devoted fandom of some kind has to form, with more than a few people extolling the virtues of said film, in order for there to be a chance of it becoming a cult classic. Feel free to let us know if this has happened.

Jupiter Ascending, for example, is another recently released film which was also critically maligned and bombed at the American box office. However, there's already a strong cult following which is only going to increase as time goes on. I'm not sure Mortdecai is having that effect on people.

..and more importantly, they are generally liked. This got terrible reviews and the two people I know who saw it hated it.

I'm at that point where I just want Johnny Depp to go away. His "effete fopp" routine drags down every film he's in these days. It seems he has forgotten how to do anything else, he just gives the same performance over and over.

A wise bet for a cult film this year would be IT FOLLOWS.

Cult movies come in several varieties, including those which receive a lot of negative reviews. But there has to be something that draws in a small (if only at first) but passionate fanbase. Something that appeals to a segment of the audience which they might not find in other movies. A uniqueness.

I haven't seen any fan blogs popping up or word of mouth in fervent defense of this movie or how it's misunderstood and can't imagine a future in which that takes place.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Johnny Depp movie. He's become incredibly lazy - and admits that he's just working for paychecks now, not for any artistic reasons - and needs to either shape up or go away.

I think this thread might actually be longer than the Mortdecai thread already.

Movie was ignored cause it was trash. I know Munn is a bad actor, but Depp was just embarassing here.

The only thing I know...another poster, elsewhere, alluded that if 50 Shades made money...and Mortdecai sucked, that life wasn't fair.
