Default Amazing movies with horrible endings that ruined it?

The worst thing movie-wise is watching an amazing movie that is close to perfect in every way... and then it gets ruined by a horrible ending. Which movies can you think of where this description fits?

On the top of my head, it's the movie "Unthinkable" with Samuel L Jackson. It was so intense and well made, but simply because of the ending it became a total failure of a movie. The whole thing was ruined.

Speaking of sunshine, ex machina had some of the same issues. The ending went off the rails, and characters stepped put of their roles, I think if Isaac wasn't so damn good I would have liked it less.

I saw it, and I have no idea what you're talking about. The ending of Ex Machina was perfect

I haven't seen Ex Machina so can't comment.

WTF twists are fine if they improve things - see From Dusk Til Dawn. Sunshine, didn't work for me.

I love Minority Report so very much but I always turn off the movie when
[Show spoiler]Cruise gets caught and put in the prison. I hate all that comes after it.

Not really. I didn't buy him
[Show spoiler]not having a fail safe to stop her. Why didn't she just attack him when he visited her and taken his keycard? Why would he not have a quick way to shut her off if he knew what she is capable of? Him being outsmarted by his employee wasn't very believable either. It wasn't perfect, and the twists were just too predictable. The uncomfortable strained and well acted relationship between the two male leads though really makes up for the flaws fortunately .

...as I thought "Unthinkable" was brilliant from start to finish, I wonder if you'd care to elaborate and perhaps explain why (in your opinion), the ending supposedly ruined the film to such an extent, so as to render the entire thing a "failure of a movie".

No, he actually means Unthinkable.

The "wife" starred in a much better movie the same year...

It just stopped so sudden. The movie ends with
[Show spoiler]us finding out that there are several bombs placed out all over the city, and it ends there. You're just left with questions. What happened next, did they manage to stop the bombs and saving everyone? It feels like they stopped in the middle of the movie.

Time Bandits.

Not that big a fan of the rest of the movie, but it has its great moments. The ending, however, comes completely out of left field and is so unjustifiably harsh to the main character for no good reason.
[Show spoiler]Essentially, after a house fire that comes out of left field, the boy is an orphan now as his parents touched a leftover "rock of evil" that started the fire and died. The fireman smiles and winks at him, then drives away, leaving the boy alone with no parents and no home. The boy is now completely alone and none of the other characters seem to be there anymore.
Always hated that ending and thought it was far too harsh for a movie of this nature.

Unbreakable. An excellent movie and then the ending had me rolling my eyes. The beginning of the end for M. Night.

First film that comes to mind for this thread title is the ending of The Mist - let’s call it divisive.
That did put a big damper on the main hero, agreed. That one gets a lot of controversy for the ending for sure.

Silent Hill, I can picture those barbed wires on the main villain lady. That was Hellraiser style for sure. Just wish the movie was scary like the first game. Silent Hill Returns is due in theaters maybe later 2025 or 2026 by the same director Ganz as part 1.

The Village I guess many didn't like that ending reveal. I sort of like it as it was unexpected and clever.

The Happening, clever again, but a wimper of an ending and movie IMO.
Old, interesting reveal ending but I was expecting a stronger story building up to it. Have one of the
[Show spoiler]employees
play a major role could've really helped the story IMO.

Grosse Pointe Blank. The entire third act is awful; everything before that is excellent.
