Exclusive thread

I propose to make an exclusive thread that can only be accessed by members who surpassed certain number of posts (and therefore ensure inaccessibility by HD DVD-ers). We can put infos that we don't want the other side to know in it (i.e. BD-buying day that happened on 18 sept 2007)

if we do that there will be a lot of GENUINE newbie members who will miss out on the buy-a-thons as they wont know about them, could b a double edged sword.

1 thread, it's not doable, but I've seen forums where they have subforums that need you to reach a certain status to access it, I think that would be an excellent idea, the only potential downside is when people are within 50 posts of getting into that subforum, they might start spamming...

I meant subforum, just like offtopic discussion is invicible to unregistered member. but this subforum, we'll make it visible to certain members who surpassed certain number of posts

It's very easy to make a subforum and only allow certain members access to it. I have that on at least 2 other boards I'm a part of(not blu-ray sites). It's good because most of the regulars and longtime members can post topics and have certain discussions, knowing newbs aren't going interfer. Usually these subforums start with a core group of people and then others are voted in using a poll thread.

well, but we don't know if the newbie is pretending or not. We can always PM them if we are convinced they are BD fans

Yeah, great idea...

NOT!! I get what you are saying, but I think it would limit the expansion of the community and the formats success. Plus, it would make the "pro blu" folks appear to be bigger snobs than the dudder's might already claim. We don't need to seperate the "classes"(upper, middle and low or no.) I say, "Sticks and stones..." All for one and "Blu" for all!!!! Maybe, you could start your own website for that sort of thing. Think of the big picture folks!!

It's not about posts, on the forums I visit that have these it's about the quality of posts, the knowledge of the subject the forum is about, not post count. Some insiders don't have a lot of posts but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be members.


BTW these forums are usually created privately to avoid these discussions

I do think it is a great idea.
We all know that trolls scan over these boards just to use things at other boards so let's take that away from them.
(I also think that the Insider's forum should be a part of it also)

I don't like the idea. Mostly because I am afraid I won't get in.

This is a great idea and works well in other forums.
In a way your earn the right to be in there so there is def value added.

Plus it keeps out the FUD and trolls from at least that area.

how about if we are letting the mods to decide whether a member should be in or out? if the mods already convinced that the member is blu-ray supporter (I own HD DVD, but support BD only) - and not neutral, then regardless the number of posts, they should be let in.
