Great! To celebrate this announcement, I just picked up Season 1 for $42 from Amazon. I've been meaning to pick it up for a while but was confused about the show's prospects for future seasons as the first season was released what seems like a looong time ago without a followup. I wonder what took so long.

In any case I would be satisfied with whatever gets released on bluray even if season 2 is the end. |

Hmm, I wasn't aware of any of this. I thought the popularity of this series would guarantee that CBS would followup with the rest of the seasons. Did Season 1 not make any money? So odd. |

1) Perhaps the target audience for this is older people who don't care about Blu-Ray and don't want to spend that much on a season of TV. 2) People are waiting for a complete series set. |

Sales for S1 weren't great, and those for Andy Griffith Show apparently even less so. (Selling $100 BD season sets up against $10 DVD sets is a challenge, particularly with an older show like this.) If sales for S2 don't hold up, I wouldn't bank on seeing any more Lucy on BD. I doubt Andy Griffith S2 has much hope, at this stage, either.

Considering how long it took for Season 2 to come out after the release of Season 1, and how expensive the sets have been, I'm wondering if it is reasonable to even try waiting for a complete set.
The current $30 price seems a bit steep compared to a lot of other TV shows, but it's a decent price, so I'm being tempted. Having just been released, Season 2 is still way over my price limit, of course. |

Nah. There's nothing else I wanna buy at this moment. I've decided I'm not going to wait past Black Friday tho. Job Switching and the Operetta are my favorite episodes of all time, and I can't go without season 2 much longer. Especially as it gets colder outside. It was raining cats and dogs yesterday and I wish I could've sat down and watched season 2.

Lucy on Blu was priced at Star Trek prices. The only thing is, Lucy ain't Star Trek. Star Trek fans almost expect a Trek tax, but even then, release week had the sets at $60 bucks or so. Lucy has been at almost 80 since release. And then you compare it to Little House on the Prairie, or X-Files, which were both quite affordable from day one, and CBS's sets are just insanely expensive. If there are no more Lucy seasons on Blu, it's no one's fault but CBS's. |

But even so, Lucy just doesn't have a rabid fanbase that will buy anything regardless of the price. So charging Star Trek prices for I Love Lucy just means no one's going to buy the discs. |

Hard to believe they expected many people to buy them considering how much they overcharged for them. Given how old the show is and that they can only make it look so good and they already sold the dvds to death. It should have been priced like 25$ max for release week and walked down to like 10$ (probably more like 5$ a season given anyone who buys its probably double dipping) a season after a year but they are pricing it higher then brand new shows. I mean I know some people will take a price beating for blu ray vs dvd but 99.99% of people have limits. When its 20$ for like the complete series on dvd or 80$ for one season on blu ray even blu ray watchers will mostly go eh I can live with the dvd. Last edited by veritas; 02-09-2016 at 01:46 AM. |
